Making money from home?

DH and I are talking about working on a baby. Basically I need a way to make around $800 per month in order to be able to stay home with a baby. I am not an outgoing person and I have nothing to sell on Ebay. I'm thinking my best choice may be working a few hours in the evening while DH stays with the baby but that is not going to be enough money. What suggestions does anyone have on how to make $800 per month with a baby? It doesn't necessarily have to be from home but it has to be baby friendly. TIA

no suggestions-just pure number crunching factoids.

i would suggest you have an accountant knowledgable in taxes first look at what impact having a child will have on your dh's net income. although you will find increased expenses-including likely those relative to health insurance, depending on his income you may find that the tax benefits will reap you more than you realize (when i had my first child i found that although i reduced my work hours by 25% i ended up with MORE take home pay because of the tax benefits).

that said-be aware that in order to make EVEN $800 per month gross-with the minimum wage in your state, you would have to find a job of at least 26.6 hours per week ($800 divided by 4.2 weeks per month equals 190.476 per week, divided by penn. new minimum wage of 7.15 per hour equals 26.64 hours per week)-you would have to consider your taxable rate in order to determine how much above those hours you would need to work in order to net $800 per month (in a 30% tax bracket figure you would need to work around 38.29 hours per week at penn minimum wage to net $800).

Babysitting or nannying (part-time). Around here, experienced babysitters make $10-12 per hour and up depending on how many children, responsibilities, etc. Craigslist can be a good place to find positions (and advertise yourself) assuming that it is active in your area. Although keep in mind that if you want to bring your baby along when you work, you may have to accept a lower hourly rate meaning more hours to make $800 per month.

Also note that while this is often a cash/under-the-table job, legally the family should be taking taxes out of your paycheck and sending you a W-2 at the end of the year. So YMMV on many hours you need to get to $800/mo.
