Making it "Disney"

The future hubs and I are getting married next year and in the process of deciding to book the Grand Californian as our venue. We're from Northern California and no venue up here is as special to us as the Disney resort. However, I think I need a little encouragement from you guys as I am having trouble envisioning just what's so "Disney" about our potential wedding, other than the fact that we are having it in a Disney hotel, albeit one that doesn't even particularly have much Disney theme on the premises! (We're probably not going to spring for the characters and I don't want to ride in on a coach - don't think that's possible where we are anyway, hehe.) How does the DFTW staff help to make your wedding decidedly Disney?

Have you spent time exploring DFTW's California section of their website? There are lots of photos from different events around DL and the resorts there. http://disneyweddings.disney.go.com/weddings/california/collections/overview

This link is from the wonderful Disney Weddings Blog ... it features photos from a wedding at the Grand Californian: http://www.disneyweddingblog.com/2010/07/wedding-spotlight-katie-mike.html#more

There's lots you can do to add little touches of Disney to your wedding, whether it's a design in your favors or on your cake (or cake topper), or hidden Mickeys in your bouquet/boutonniere, or Disney songs played at your reception or during your wedding. You can also go all-out and hire characters to come to your reception.

Believe me, if you talk to them, Disney will have no trouble providing you with ideas to incorporate the magic into your day!

Oh. I think I just spent 2 hours at that blog...:rotfl:

We too were from Northern Ca when we planned our wedding. After looking all over the bay area we couldn't find a place that matched us to a tee. We were originally scheduled to have our wedding at the GCH but due to a bug infestation shortly before our wedding date (and the removal of the greenery at the site) we switched the ceremony site to the DLH gazebo, but still had our reception at the GCH.

So what makes a wedding Disney?
  • The monorail passing by overhead if your reception is in the Brisa Courtyard
  • Pictures with DCA in the background
  • Impeccable quality and service
  • A unique location that your friends won't have
  • We played Disney music during our reception
  • Mickey themed place cards and invitations
  • You can add Hidden Mickey's to your floral or cake
  • Mickey and Minnie cake topper
  • A wedding location that people will enjoy, our guests turned our wedding into mini-vacations.

We did not have characters (due to budget) or the coach (due to our personality). But did have subtle touches at our Disney wedding. HTH.
