Does anyone here on the budget board make dog treats for their dog? If you do could you please post your recipes here?
What about a "shortbread" cookie recipe for them....I bought some for my "little man" at a gourmet dog treat store and he loved them but they are way too expensive for me to buy all the time.

I've almost gone completely homemade for treats vs store bought.

Here is one of their faves...

Pumpkin Muttins

2c oat flour
2tsp baking powder
2tsp cinnamon
1/2tsp baking soda
1/2tsp ground cloves
3 eggs
3/4c honey
1/4c safflower oil
1 15oz can of pumpkin

Preheat to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients. Use muffin liners or grease muffin pan, spoon mixture evenly into the pan as close to the top of the cup as possible.

Mini muffin pan - 10-15 mins
Regular muffin pan - 22-27 mins
Done when toothpick comes out clean, cool on wire rack
Store in fridge in airtight container

Let me dig up a couple others and I'll post them too. The Organic Dog Biscuit Cookbook from Bubba Roses Biscuit Company has a ton of great (and simple) recipes.

They LOVE these and go nuts when I make them...

Ginger Snaps

2c oat flour
2c brown rice flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 egg
1/4c safflower oil
1/2c molasses (blackstrap or regular)
1c water

Preheat to 350
Combine all ingredients, mix thoroughly
Spoon out with tablespoon and drop on ungreased cookie sheet

These cookies won't rise or flatten so if you want flatter cookies press them down before baking.

Bake 18-22 mins or until golden brown, cool on rack
Store at room temp in loosely covered container

One more...these are baking now and smell SO good.

Pumpkin-Banana Split Bars

1.5c oat flour
1.5c brown rice flour
1c rolled oats (old fashioned, not instant)
1tsp cinnamon
2 eggs
1/4c safflower oil
1/2c molasses (blackstrap or regular)
2c pumpkin (canned or fresh)
2c bananas (mashed & pureed)

Preheat to 350, mash & puree the bananas
Combine all together until thoroughly mixed

Lightly grease a 9" square baking pan, pour mixture into it

Bake 30-35 mins or until top appears golden brown and sides begin to slightly loosen from the pan. Remove from oven, cool on wire rack. Once cool slice into individual sized squares. Store in an airtight container in fridge.

ETA..These took more like 45 minutes to cook all the way through.

BTW...the oat flour and brown rice flour are tons cheaper if you can buy it in bulk vs bagged.

We used to make doggie treats by pureeing liver in a blender, mixing it with oatmeal and spreading it in a baking pan. When it thickened up we cut them up into squares. The dog loved them but we ended up burning up the motor on the blender after a few batches.

Happybratpack....thank you soooo much I'm going to give them a try.
I'll let you know how he likes them.

How much do these make? I am baking for 7 dogs, 3 of them Great Danes. any ideas on how many batches to make??
