Making DL Reservation

My DH and I are planning a September trip to DL. But, we can't commit to the trip until June (work committments) . Will we still have a good chance at getting a room? We would love to stay at GCH but would really be happy at any. I know once we convert our points to reservation points we can't get them back as points. So, I want to wait to make the reservation until we know for sure we can go. TIA.

Just a guess but you probably have a good chance of being successful - especially if you have a little flexibility in your days. This past May I was able to book a room for 2 nights at GC just two weeks ahead of time. However I was unable to use points for the 3rd night I wanted (a Sunday) and had to pay cash. If I had been willing to adjust by a day or two I could have had all my days on points. I think that Sept is a little bit slower season which should be a plus for you in trying to get the reservation.

I tried to book GCH for the nights of Dec 3, 4, 5 at the beginning of September and could not get a reservation with points even though the disneyland website showed rooms available. I called back a couple of times to see if it opened up, no luck. I'm staying at PPH. I had assumed that because the disney website showed availability for all room nights & types that I would be able to get it on points but that is not the case, only a certain number of points rooms are available. None of the nights were available on points.

I suspect they have separate inventory. We had a similar situation when we booked 2 rooms for the 50 year celebration at DL a couple years back--only it worked in our favor. We couldn't get ressies on the website (or calling the regular number), but DVC had rooms available and we were able to get a reservation.

I would think you should be fine booking Sept in June. Most of my bookings are done 1-3 months before our travel dates.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience. I am hopeful we will be able to take the trip and get the hotel we want. This will be DH first trip to DL and only my second trip although it was when I was a kid so it's really more like my first trip too.

I just found out the probable months for my son's wedding will be either March or April 2010. How far in advance should I book DL or PP hotels during that season using points? Can I book them 11 mos. out?

You have a couple of complicating factors:
1. They might not have the per point price for the rooms at the 11 month point. We could not make a reservations for NYE last year (12/30/07-1/2/08) until July 26, 2007 because they didn't get the point schedules (to cover the night of the Jan 1st 2008) until then.
2. GCV should be open by then. Hopefully, we will still be able to use points at DL and PP, but they may not be as good a deal as they are now. On the other hand, maybe you could stay at the new GCV!

Well that would be wonderful, but it would be a 7 mos. ressie, so I don't know my chances, although I could ressie soon after it opens (due to open late 2009?). Yes, plus, I would be waiting real late if I wait to ressie at GCV. Say I don't get anything, then I'm looking at PP or DL with 4 mos. notice! What to do? Thanks for your info...
