I was just wondering how far in advanced you need to make dining reservations at disneyland. Also, what is the procedure for making disneyland dining reservations?

Just call the dining reservation number up to 60 days (I believe ) in advance (most places you can get reservations a week or less before the date however).

You can make them I believe 30 days in advance (maybe 60 days). There are only a few places that you want to make dinning reservations (blue bayou). But other than Fatasmic Dessert seating you can usually make reservations a few days before you want to eat there.
Disneyland dinning is a completely different beast than WDW. There are only a couple places in each park that take dinning reservations, as there are only a few that have table service. Disneyland has a lot of local visitors who may only visit during the day and not eat in the park.
You're going to Disneyland! AHHH! Awesome! To answer your questions, 60 days...if you have an iPhone, I recommend the Disneyland Magic Guide app to everything easy!
It's 60 days, you can call the number posted above 60 days out for reservations. As mentioned unless you wanting to dine at BB or maybe Napa Rose you will be OK waiting until closer to book your dining reservations.
Thanks for the advice Everyone . Many of you said that Disneyland dining is different from Disney world dining in that their are less places that u need to make reservations for, what are the places that need reservations in the first place? Specifically does storybook cafe require advanced reservations? Also slightly unrelated to the previous question but still related to the overall concept of Disneyland dining does gaston still make appearances at any of the Disneyland Restaraunts.

As far as I know there is no restaurant with the name Storybook Cafe at Disneyland. Do you mean Storyteller's Cafe in the Grand Californian Hotel? If so then yes it takes reservations.
And I have never heard of Gaston making an appearance at any character meals.
Table-Service Restarurants: Disneyland
Blue Bayou
Carnation Cafe (currently under remodel)
Cafe Orleans
Plaza Inn Character Breakfast (lunch/dinner is scramble service)
Is it ok to split meals at any of the places that require reservations? We are so used to just buying the DDP at WDW that I about fell out of my chair looking at menu prices on allears! I know we probably spend about the same amount each day, but it's different when I pay for it in advance and don't actually have to worry about menu prices while on vacation.
What are your favorite places to eat around the DL area and why?

We usually do a cheap breakfast (unless we do a character breakfast). Then for lunch it's usually hungry bear or village haus as both have burgers and sandwiches which while expensive for burgers an sandwiches aren't that bad for park prices. Then for dinner we like big thunder ranch BBQ. All you can eat table service. Food was terrific when we went last and both myself and DW can't wait to go back.
Yes you can split meals. Be warned if you request them to split there will be a charge. At Blue Bayou that charge is $12. But the extra $12 includes that each plate get full sides & salad/soup. Really they are only splitting the meat/entree.
