In a few weeks I will be making our dining reservations. We may or may not have 1 extra person going on out trip with us, we are trying to work out the details with a school friend.

If we dont know for sure when i book dining, should i book for 5 of us and if they dont go try to rebook for 4 of us or just show up as 4, or should i book for 4 of us, if they do go, try to rebook for 5 or will i be able to just show up with 5?

Just want to do it correctly, but also be able to get into places.

This has happened to me a number of times, the 4 vs 5, I always book for 5, (hope for the best!) then straighten it out when I get to the podium at the ADR time, the CM's have always been very nice about it.

I would book for 5. It's much easier to subtract a seat than to add later on.

As said above, it is much easier to remove a person than to add one.

The only issue you run into with removing someone is a CC hold meal, like CRT. You would have to cancel within the policy in order to not be charged if that person doesn't come.

But any restaurant that doesn't require a CC hold, you just simply show up without them and explain to the host/hostess you are 1 less. No issue.

(of course if you know before hand and can reschedule the adr for the less number it is best to do so. That gives others a chance to get the availability, but if you aren't penalized)
