Hi everyone. Thanks to all of your advice I have booked CG for our first wedding anniversary as a surprise for DH :) I booked it online and filled in the add a celebration bit. Is it enough to just do that or would it better to speak with someone on the phone? Any experience with adding a celebration to your ADRs? Thanks! :)

You don't need to call. However, when you check in, you might want to remind them. However, many times, they'll say something when you get there.

I don't know how special you are expecting the restaurant's reaction to be, but if you are looking for them to do something other than congratulate you, like bring you a special dessert, they might do that, or they might not. If you want a guarantee on that, you would probably need to arrange for that yourself, and pay for it.

Calling the restaurant directly won't help, and WDW-DINE won't be able to assist on this. If you'd like to order a cake, there's a cake thread with the number for the cake hotline. You can buy a celebration cake at the restaurant, but it wont' be personalized.

Celebrations may or may not be acknowledged. It helps that you have it listed on the ADR, however it is best to go in with a low expectation. Due to the sheer volume of people celebrating something at Disney, they can't go out of their way every time. I agree with calling the cake hotline or Disney florist if you'd like to set up something special.

For birthdays, anniversies, and other celebrations,
no restaurant/resort is that much better than another.

1) Acknowledgment is a matter of the CM's personal initiative.
. . . depends upon how much they like you as a guest
. . . depends if they feel like doing anything special today
. . . depends upon the phase of the moon
2) CM's can do a lot, or they can do nothing at all.
. . . they are under no obligation to give goodies or even acknowledge, or
. . . they can go way overboard and give lots of gifts to a guest
3) The CM's have a lot of leeway of things to do or not do for you.
4) Have your anniversary-birthday-celebration noted on the ressie and ADR's.
5) Some of the things a CM can do for free are
. . . decorate table with Mickey confetti
. . . best table location
. . . special personalized menu
. . . character-autographed birthday cards
. . . balloons
. . . wine or champagne or Shirley Temples
. . . appetizers or desserts
. . . cakes
. . . cupcake with candle (almost always available for the asking)
. . . placemats autographed by characters
. . . free appy pr free dessert
. . . room full of balloons and/or flowers
. . . fruit basket or wine basket in hotel room

The only way to guarantee that anything is said/done is to call ahead & arrange & pay for it. It's up to the CM if they acknowledge a celebration, even if noted on the ADR/ressie. More often than not, our celebrations were not acknowledged at restaurants, which is fine with us, we know to go in not expecting anything!

Thanks for all of your replies. Have never added a celebration to an ADR so I was just curious. Just experiencing CG for the first time and seeing the fireworks on our anniversary will be special enough I'm sure :)

First of all congratulations on your upcoming anniversary! (I peeked at your wedding photos and they are breathtaking!) Anyhoo... back to your question. As others have said, it really depends on the server but we've typically had at least one little surprise for our signature meals for special celebrations. We've a combination of confetti, champagne, dessert, cards, and personalized menus at Cali Grill - but not all of these at once.

Enjoy your special celebration!

Oh thank you so much, that's so kind of you to say :)

Can't wait to finally dine at CG! I'm sure it will be great no matter what. We had a lovely CM look after us the day after the wedding when we had lunch at the Crystal Palace. We didn't say anything about just getting married and there was no celebration added to the ADR but she noticed our "Happily ever" pins and brought us a cupcake and a card signed by the characters :) Love a bit of Disney magic!

Thank you also for your kind wishes :)

when we used to call in adr's i always mentioned birthdays/anniversaries.Never asked for anything special. always tipped well when it happened. Most of the time at checkin they CM mentioned that i included a mention when i made adr's

That being said..we also got anniversary pins at checkin and wore them occasionally(maybe 3x in a week) to dinners/lunch/breakfast. asked no more at checkin at resturants etc. and got something a little extra at almost every meal.. usually a little cake or breakfast treat........

On our anniversary trip to CG I add on to the reservation that it was our anniversary. We got the confetti on the table, but when desert came one of ours said happy anniversary the other said happy birthday.

We've had balloons and a card in our room waiting when we got there, cupcakes at Tuskar House (every time), confetti on the table at CG, and confetti at the Desert Party. That's about it.

I hear about people getting champagne, specialty deserts, gift baskets, etc... just my luck it's never happened to me. I'm just lucky that way.
