Making ADR's

I have what is probably a really silly question but I just want to be sure there won't be any issues. DH and I are spending 3 days at WDW prior to a cruise and we are considering adding the DDP. I don't think we will be sure about a decision until early summer but I want to make my ressies at 180 days - can I do that? Will it matter when I make my reservations if I have the plan or not?

TIA

In general, it does not matter. The only time it matters is if you are booking an ADR for a location that requires prepayment (CRT or a dinner show) -- in that case, having the dining plan means you'd only need to leave a credit card guarantee rather than be charged the ticket price.

If you added DDP later, you should be able to get any prepayment charges refunded if you call them and link the ADR to your reservation.

That is what I thought - but sometimes that can blow up in my face. We are not doing any of th pre-payment ressies so I should be good to go.

Thanks!!

You absolutely do not need to have a dining plan at the reservation-making stage. It's only important when you get to the restaurant (prepaid reservations excluded).

You could make reservations at 180 days no matter where you are staying. To make 180 + 10 reservations (meaning that on the 180 day mark from your first vacation day, you can make all your restaurant reservations for up to 10 days of your trip) you must have a Disney resort confirmation number. You don't have to have a dining plan.

You can absolutely make dining reservations whether you have a trip planned or not. Just please remember to cancel them if you don't go, so others can get your spot.

The only other thing I would suggest is make sure you are going to add park hoppers to your vacaton or just make sure you are eating at a resort TS instead of a park.

It would be horrible if you didn't purchase PH and have your meal planned at the park you didn't go to.

Have fun!!!

Thank you everyone for your responses to what I thought was about as dumb a question as one could possibly ask. I should know better - been doing the parks for years but we have just never done the dining plan. We are saying at OKW (have owned since '93 so I am feeling dumber by the minute) before we sail on the Magic.

:worship::worship::worship:Thank you wise ones.
