Making ADRs; not using DDP

I can make ADRs even if we aren't doing the DDP right? We are staying off property this trip, but there are a few places we would like to eat on property (Poly Luau, 1900 Park Fare, Liberty Tree). Will they charge my credit card now or do they just hold it and not charge until I actually eat

ADRs whether you are on DDP or not and whether you are on or off property. There is a slight advantage in timing if you stay on property and you plan well ahead.

For most ADRs a credit card is not required. Of the three that you listed, I believe only the Poly luau requires payment in advance.

Hootch, what do you mean by a slight advantage in timing if staying on prop? I can still do the 180 day thing right if I'm off prop?

Yes, you can make ADR's without being on the DDP, or without staying on site and even if you're just going for the day.

Credit Card guarantees are required for a few places, CRT & Norway's Princess meals. You may cancel those up to 48hrs in advance without being charged a cancellation fee.

Dinner shows (Luau, Hoop Dee Doo Review) are different and require payment at the time of reservation.

We used to stay offsite and I was able to make all ADRs just as if I were staying onsite.

your ADRs 180 days out if you are staying offsite. The slight advantage for people onsite is that they can make ADRs starting 180 days from check in and for the next ten days of their stay. So if you are offsite site the first Monday you can make your ADRs 180 days out. If you want to do your Tuesday ADRs 180 days out you will need to call the next day, etc. There are a few restaurants for which this is a big advantage but for many it may be only a matter of whether you ADR time is ten minutes different than what you wanted. I am not clear on whether Disney holds spots for the different timing - ie only so many are filled prior to the 180 day mark.
