Making ADRs for myself and other family?

I'm in charge of making ADRs for both my family (3 people) and a family we are traveling with (5 people). We are going for 9 days and they are going for 5 so there will be ADRs that I will make for only my family as well. Both of us are going to be on the DDP. Do I need to have only my reservation number or do I need both reservation numbers when I make the ADRs? Is there anything else I need to know since our party is going to total 8 people? I'm a bit leery about doing this, so I want to make sure that I'm uber-prepared. Thanks in advance!

We went last year with another family who were also with DDP like us. I called WDW a few months ahead of time with 2 different ADR's for both families. The CM had no problem with our ADR's what-so-ever. Keep a good list of who's eating where and when, and mark down the ADR # for each reservation.
Just to let you know, we will be going again with our best friends. I will be able to call in our ADR's in 3 day (180 days window) We all have the Deluxe DDP this year, so as the planner of the group, I will be in charge of calling in the ADR's as usual.

This is what has happened when we've planned our meals with others.... If you are making ADRs for both of your families to eat together you will get one ADR number and this put your entire party sitting together. If you are making ADRs for your families to eat at different places and times you'll get two sets of ADRs - one set for your meals and one set for your friend's family.

When you arrive for your ADRs most of the restaurants will not seat you until all of your party is there and since you will have 9 people your bill will have an automatic 18% gratuity added to it which will be put on your bill and your friend's bill.

Thank you so much for the replies. Can you clear up one other question as well? I thought that I had to have my reservation number (provided by Disney when we booked the trip) in order to make ADRs. Is that not the case? If it is indeed the case, will I need my friend's reservation number as well to book the dinners we are eating together? Thank you again so much for the thoughtful replies.

I had my friend's RSVP #, so no problem there when asked. In case if you don't, the CM might want to know your friend's phone number(I think)

I think you only really need your room ressie number if you are taking advantage of the 180+10 days for resort guests. We didn't have my in-laws ressie numbers but they were able to look them up and didn't give us any problems. I'm not sure if we weren't questioned about it because our meals were all together or what. I would think that for the meals that you are eating together you would only need one ressie number since they'll be giving you one ADR number.

You never need a reservation number when booking a dining reservation. Otherwise, offsite people and locals would never be able to make reservations. All you need is a phone number. In the OP's case, two phone numbers, one for each set of reservations.
