Making a stray a pet...someone talk me out of this, please!!

Frontline is the best, at least for our pets. Also, bathing the kitty (if you dare) with Ivory soap also kills fleas per the vet.

I'm not talking you out of it. Have fun with your new baby :D

How to bathe the Cat:
1. Thoroughly clean the toilet.
2. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water, and have both lids lifted.
3. Obtain the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.
4. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids (you may need to stand on the lid so that he cannot escape).
CAUTION: Do not get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out for any purchase they can find.
5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a 'power wash and rinse' which I have found to be quite effective.
6. Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.
7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.
8. The now-clean cat will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside where he will dry himself.

Sincerely,

The Dog

Not going to talk you out of it what so ever . In fact i think you deserve a pat on the back for taking in this kitty... you should be proud of yourself:Pinkbounc & yes i would say frontline is the best option....

I'm so happy you are taking in a stray! All of my cats were strays and I've had some truly beautiful, wonderful cats! I think for awhile thought people kept leaving them near my house hoping I'd take them.

When strays adopt you, don't you feel like it was 'meant to be'?

I agree with the Frontline advice! I don't know what you could do about other parasite possibilities though? Good luck!

The best dog I ever had was a stray Chow chow that we called Sing-sing. We tried to find her owners for MONTHS (she was a purebred WITH a collar and rabies tags) but NO ONE would claim her - we even went to the vet that issued the rabies tag.

Anyway she was the best dog I ever had and I still mourn her today. I don't know if I would take a stray in today - I have so many animals that I live in a zoo! If I didn't have many animals, I would take a stray in a heartbeat!!!:wave2:

Yay! I'm so happy for Crookshanks, and for you! If you must bring him inside before seeing the vet, keep him away from your puppy. Fleas can be controlled fairly easily, but if he has worms (yuck), that might be more difficult.

We use Frontline on the cats at the shelter, and never have flea problems. Except for the 2 kittens that came in this week. We had some little crawlies hitch a ride with them. The Frontline is doing the trick, though.

Have fun with your new friend!
