Making a payment on my reservation

I called yesterday to make a payment on my Royal Pacific reservation - 8 nights of club level. I am getting 5x rewards this month on my Disney Visa and wanted to pay off my reservation now so I get the bonus points for the Visa. We aren't going to Universal until July, and the promotion period ends before then.

Anyway, I called to make the payment and they said I had to fill out a credit card authorization form and fax it in. I can't just make a payment over the phone (like I did with the deposit). This form requires me to sign it, plus give a copy of the front and back of my credit card. Does this seem odd to anyone? I'm afraid to fax something like that. Who knows how long it will be sitting around on some fax machine.

Does anyone have experience doing this?

I'm almost about to give up on getting the bonus points.

Yes, that is standard. We've faxed that info in before when my daughter went but didn't have a credit card and I was paying for her room.
There were no issues.

I agree with you. All they need is your CC#, Exp. Date and the CCV code on the back of the card, plus you're billing address. Ask to talk to a manager and keep asking for 1 until they handle it properly. They should be able to run that info through the CC machine manually, and take all of 2 minutes. No different than if you were on site. They'll be able to give you an authorization number over the phone and send you a receipt the same day.

Good Luck.

Yes its an Advanced Payment form, i get them to email one to me, and then fax it in, have don this many times.
I had to send photo copies of my CC and my driving licence as well, never had any problems, but this or sending in a cheque is the only way to make payment in advance of stay

Ensuring that you have physical possession of the card is a safeguard. It is no more of a risk than giving your card to a waiter in a restaurant. You have protections if there is fraud. I wouldn't hesitate.

Doesn't seem that odd. And they want their payment, so they'll be clearing out that fax machine tray. And anyone with access to it is a Universal employee.

If others have done this previously, I feel a little better. I guess I am just paranoid because the Michaels store near me just was involved in a credit card skimmer scam. And I had an unauthorized charge on my debit card last month and am currently waiting for a replacement card.

This is new to me, I paid right over the phone last year by providing my information and was never asked to send in a form. I plan on doing the same thing this year in mid June to pay off our trip so I guess I will see what happens.

I paid my room by sending a check , the address was the same as the cc
form .Was told to include the hotel, res # and dates.

I emailed them and said I wanted to pay by check. They sent me an email back saying where to mail it and to put my reservation number on check.

Don't nknow if this will help explain it but
If you have a room-only reservation you have to use the fax form
If it is a package then you can call with payments

No idea why this is but I have purchased both and each time room-only fax, package you may call.

hope this helps

I think people missed the point that I was trying to pay early so that I could get bonus reward points on my Disney Visa. I get 5x rewards on all amounts over $3000 until June 30. My Universal trip is 4th of July week. So I was trying to get the 5x rewards by paying early. I also paid off our August cruise this week. Plus I bought my Universal tickets online. I was trying to do it all in this one month to maximize the rewards. But I had no idea about this fax thing. It kind of threw a loop into my plans. (Yes, I had the money for this in my vacation account, so I will be paying it off and not paying any interest.)

Anyway, that is why sending in a check was not an option. I would rather just wait to pay the balance on check in and get normal rewards at that time rather than sending in a check. However, that is a possibility for some people if they wanted to pay their balance off a little at a time and not have to worry about faxing their credit card.

I called Universal again today after reading up a little bit on the Payment Card Industry data security standards and asked them a few questions. For a merchant to be certified they have to comply with a few standards on how they secure people's credit card data. So I asked them their methods for securing the data. I was satisfied with the response and faxed over my information. I got a return fax with the confirmation of full payment. So I am optimistic. I also called Disney Visa and asked their opinion of the matter and whether or not I would be considered liable for any fraudulent charges considering I had faxed my secure information. Frankly, his recommendation was that I didn't fax it.

I hope this information helps other people who might want to pay things off early.
