Making a change...airing my head

A year and a half ago I accepted a position in another office in my building. A few months in to it I didn't feel like there was enough work to occupy my time and became a little distressed. I vowed I would stick it out at least a year before seeking a new opportunity. Sure there were good times, days and weeks where the work load was well worth the pay, but overall I was bored.

Well, a position opened in my old office, doing my old job that I really did enjoy. I was asked if I wanted to come back (working for a different boss) and had last weekend to think about it. I pretty much had my mind made up immediately, but sat on it.

On Monday I stated my intentions, that I was indeed interested and all week the wheels have been in motion between my current boss, the new boss's boss and the head of HR, with me sitting quietly by waiting to hear if my salary was too high, wondering if anyone else was approached about the spot or what exactly was expected from the person hired to fill the vacancy.

Today I was told that the position is hourly (figured it probably was, I'm currently salaried) but they are willing to keep my annual rate on an hourly basis - not an issue to me. I only had today to give an answer as the HR head will be on vacation next week, plus the position needs to be filled quickly. I said I would have an answer before day's end, hopefully by the end of lunch.

Shortly after lunch it had occurred to me that if I stayed where I am I will be unhappy at the lack of work, whereas I was practically giddy all week at the prospect of going back to the old office. I made the call and accepted the position and left my current supervisor know my intentions.

I was asked to write a letter of resignation - why I don't know because I didn't need one when I left my old job, but anyway - I was going to write one over the weekend, but had time to kill and wrote something short and simple before leaving for the weekend. I left the copies in my desk drawer and will deliver them on Monday.

I'm relieved that I don't have to wrestle with this all weekend, and I really think I will be happier with the old gang. I'm sure I will miss some of the things I got to be part of, but honestly I think I will be too busy to care a whole lot.

If you've read this far, thanks for "listening". :listen:

Good for you! :thumbsup2

Congratulations for having the courage to make the change back to your old office. Have no doubt you'll be glad you did! :cheer2:

Best wishes to you.
