My DS will be celebrating his 8th birthday during our Dec trip. What kind of things can we do to help make the day extra special? Any info that anyone has would be great.

Ask for the birthday button when you get to the gate, they will tell you were find one. the cm's will do the rest. Let them know at meals also.

We just celebrated my son's 8th B'day there a week ago. At Mk, we got him the b'day button, and the CM that gave it to him gave him a special fastpass for all of us that got us to the front of the line on any ride he wanted.
Also - I know the barber shop on Main St will do a special B'day hair doo - they spray colored hair spray, spike up the hair and put glitter in it! Looks neat!
If you're planning on having a b'day meal at one of the parks, make sure they know about the b'day ahead of time - they'll put ribbons and confetti on the table. We had a cake made and delivered by the wdw bakery for a lunch at the Castle. The cake was an 8 in round for about $25. They have larger and smaller cakes.
If you're staying at a WDW hotel, tell the front desk about the b'day, and they will send a character card and blaoons to your room.
Make sure he wears the button all day - and point it out to the CM's - they allowed us to ride many of the rides twice in a row without getting off!
Have fun!

WOW! That is great AFMom! But don't go expecting that much attention. Let any magic truly surprise you and make you happy.

We went in May for my ds's 5th birthday and my 40th birthday. I did get ds the button in MK, but no one really seemed to notice it. We stayed in the CR tower, and there were no balloons/card, though I'm sure that his birthday was noted on our reservations.

We did have a decorated table at CP for his birthday lunch with Pooh, and the waitress there brought him a card and cupcake. Also, the night before his birthday we ate at Chef Mickey's. I did not mention the birthdays when I made that PS, but they had both his and mine noted. The table had "Happy Birthday" placemats at our seats, and we both were brought cupcakes.

It was an absolutely magical trip! I can't wait to take dd back for her 13th in 2006...I wish we could go sooner!

We celebrated my daughter's fifth and son's eleventh on our June 27-July 10 trip. (Also my mom's and BIL's, great trip!)
Definately let the front desk know at check in. I didn't say anything at SSR, but my son piped up when we were putting charging privelages on my room key. "Hey mom, since it's my birthday and all, can I have charging privelages too?" The CM heard him and started asking him questions, he told her it was his and his sister's birthday that week.
Next day we returned to our room and found two balloon bouquet's with two autographed pics. Kids were sooo excited, and my family was impressed.
Same thing when we moved over to POR, only I think the Magical Gathering planner had it noted on our ressie.
We got the birthday buttons at each park and the CM's were great. My son was given Front of the line passes for Buzz by a CM in Tomorrowland. He was given pins by many, many CM's.
Rosie in MGM sang to him, then handed him two pins she found in the "sewer" while cleaning up. He thought that was hilarious.
We had it noted on our PS's too. My daughter was sung to at the GF Tea and served a huge cupcake.
My son got a great big sundae at Sci-Fi, and he had to stand up on his seat so the restaurant could sing to her.
People would stop us just to say Happy Birthday or sing to the kids. It was great.
Finally, they both got birthday phone calls from Goofy.

I also had made t-shirts for them to wear on their special day, with a baby pic and Happy Birthday printed on them. Embarrassing, yes, but great pics of them wearing the shirts.
