Makeover for Castaway Cay

Looks great. I wouldn't use the cabanas, but I think the slide look wonderful!!

We just got back, and you could see construction in the area but it didn't interfere at all with being a beach bum. :beach:

My DH and I are in construction and we were amused to see that the construction project managers were wearing Castaway Cay button down shirts, khaki shorts, and work boots. I truly admire Disney's incredible attention to detail and devotion to the guest experience.

I saw the article as well, that slide and cabana look awesome- can't wait to see them. We rebooked for a dummy date, because we want to go on the new ships- so it will be a while.:sad1::sad1::sad1:

Just off the Magic yesterday and I was already looking forward to the next time. Now I am even more excited!

There was a lot of construction work going on when we visited on Sunday 16th August. Now that was not just at the port but behind Cookies BBQ, there was cranes and construction noise.

My guess is this work is going on when the current ships are not in CC, but on Sunday 16th we were not expected until they change rout on the 15th, so construction workers etc, were already recruited for that day, there wasn't any construction on Friday 21st,

Castaway Cay will look fabulous after its makeover. We will be sailing in late 2010 so we be able to enjoy Castaway Cay's new and improved improvements. I appreciated the information. Thanks:thumbsup2

Heres a link to the expantion plans going on Castaway Cay.

New options that will be available for Disney Cruise Line guests include 20
private cabanas, which will feature indoor and outdoors areas,
refrigerators, a fresh-water shower, lockable storage and the ability to
have food and beverage catered. Most will be located facing the family
beach

Im liking the cabana idea.. wonder what the cost of those will be?

While I don't really get the need for cabanas on a short-stay basis (unless this leads to longer stays?!?) the kid-like water park sounding features should be really nice.....I guess you can participate or ignore....so long as the screaming sounds don't carry to the beach, I guess. I LOVE Sesame Place and those of that ilk.

There is a great new utube video link on mousesavers-it's exciting enough to make me want to brave the 2010 summer prices!!

Just watched this podcast--Looks very exciting!!
I have not been yet-My first time will be March. I did not even realize that it was that large.

Have any of you heard about the changes that are taking place on Castaway Cay? My friend informed me of several changes that will be taking place there to accommodate the additional passengers on the new ships. Private cabanas, water slides, more family area. Anyone know of anything else? Can't wait to see them! Should be done for the summer of 2010.
:yay:

Wow!

All those people who hold empty hammocks with 1 flip-flop all day and call them "MINE"" can keep 'em. I'm going for the cabanas! ;)

Great idea - can't wait to try one out! :thumbsup2

BTW - we reserved a "Party Patio" at Blizzard Beach in July. It was about $225.00-$250.00 (for up to 6 guests) for the whole day and was worth every penney. It was partly shaded, had an umbrella, about 6 padded chairs/ottomans, a cooler with about 20 large Dasani bottles. It included a locker and towels (otherwise you need to rent those separately). We also got the large, refillable soda mugs (twice as big as the resort mugs). We were right in the middle of the park and had every amenity within 100 ft of us.

The CC cabanas sound much nicer than this and I think will be hard to come by once word gets out from the first group on CC that get them.

Has anyone heard any updates as to whether or not some things will be ready before summer 2010? One poster mentioned Spring 2010...keeping my fingers crossed.
