Make up tips for the ladies

I have been wanting to use "mineral" make up for awhile. I am not sure even sure where to start. I am leary of ordering online because I am not sure what colors or what I need. Any help would be appreciated!!

Take the plunge you'll never go back!
I use BM, ordered them from QVC....started with one color for most of the year and have since added 2 other colors depending on my needs with my self tanner. The Mineral Veil is also wonderful!

that I like even though it's not an "expensive" brand, I stick with it!! For example....liquid eyeliner is a MUST for me...I've tried ALOT brands...although I need to venture over to MAC and try that one out.....BUT for now I am using ALMAY ....LOVE IT!

I am with you. That is the only eyeliner I wear. When I finally find a store that sells the color I use, I buy them out. :thumbsup2

Whoops wanted to add I ordered my second Bare Escentuals Buxom lip gloss duo...the colors are beautiful and it has a lovely minty scent & tingle.
Very moisturizing & I have worn it with & without lipstick under it.

A lot of companies sell samples for only $1.00. The three main things with mineral makeup is:

1. Use just a very tiny amount. Basically put a tiny bit in the lid (or in a small custard cup size bowl), swirl your brush in it, tap almost all of it off, then buff it on your face. Again you need very, very little (only a small residue should show on your brush). Too much and you will look chalky.

2. Invest in some really good mineral make up brushes. Regular brushes do not work as well with mineral makeup.

3. Always use a good primer under your foundation and eyeshadow to make it last.

Alot of people say bismuth makes them itch (especially when they get hot), so you might want to avoid products with bismuth in them. Alot of people like Bare Escentuals, but then again alot don't like how shiny it makes them look, plus it has bismuth in it. If your skin is oily pick a product with clay and silica in it, but if your skin is dry pick a product that's mainly silk.

You might try samples from the following companies: Pure Luxe, Dream World Minerals, Everyday Minerals, Silk Naturals, Joppa, Suncat, Cory, Ocean Mist, Lumiere, Monave, Aubry Nicole, MAD Minerals, Alima, or Fyrinnae. These smaller companies usually have great customer service and alot of them have forums on their sites where you can get your questions answered and lots of advice. Pure Luxe and Dream World will both custom mix foundations for you. Also check out Makeup Alley and makeuptalk.com's mineral makeup section for reviews and advice. Delphi forums also have a great forum for mineral makeup reviews and advice. Again though make sure you have really, really good brushes, as they make all the difference in the final look of mineral makeup. Also check the ingredients and make sure they are pure minerals (unlike alot of the department store brands that only contain some minerals). Mineral makeup is so much better for your skin and feels like you are wearing nothing. You'll never go back to liquid makeup again.

Personally for foundation I prefer Dream World or Pure Luxe. Pure Luxe has one of the biggest selection of eyeshadows and blushes. I love Pure Luxe's Translucent Matte, April's Mix, and powder Eraser. I really love Silk Naturals Date Bate as a finishing powder. However, Dream World makes some wonderful primers and finishers (Whipped Cream, Angel Cream, Butterscotch cream, etc). Meow makes some beautiful blushes. The She Space, Dream World, and Fyrinnae make beautiful, unique eyeshadows (as does Pure Luxe).

When I tried Bare Escentuals for the first time, I went to the "Bare Escentuals" store at my local shopping mall. Do a search in your area to see if you have a store in your area. This is of course the easiest way to pick the right shade for your your skin tone. You can sample anything and everything in that store!! BUT if you don't have a store near you, I would try the starter kit. It includes the basics. You will get 2 shades of mineral foundation. One will be darker than the other. They let you choose which two. This was GREAT for me b/c the lighter shade I wear in the winter months and the darker shade I wear during the summer months when I am slightly tan. This kit also includes the "Mineral Veil" which is a finishing powder. You also get a Warmth All Over face powder. This adds a little warmth to your skin. AND what I love is the brushes that come with the starter kit. Especially the Kabuki brush!!!
I started out with that kit and I just kept adding to it. It lasts a very long time b/c you only use a little bit at a time.

Also....just FYI I have VERY sensitive skin and never had a problem with Bare Escentuals. But everyone is different of course.

Just my 2 cents about it!!! :goodvibes
