For any of you who use, or have tried, the bare minerals (or other brands) what did you think of it? I don't like anything heavy and cakey looking, but I do like something that lasts. I haven't tried it yet, but it is appealing since it's a dry powder instead of a liquid, and it just seems it would breathe better.

Let me hear all the good, bad and uglies!!!

I have used Bare Minerals for 3 years. No other makeup will ever touch my skin.

Does that answer your question? :)

That good? YAY! How well does it last through heavy humidity?

I've not used bare minerals yet. I bought something that i really thought was bare minerals from ebay, but think i was fumbuzzled. I did get tiarra minerals though, and I used the eyeshadow/eyeliner and absolutely love it. I think it was golden brown. I lost it though, and days haven't been the same. I know it is in the car somewhere. I used a skinny eyeshadow applicator, put it on the end and it is so perfect!

I've used Bare Minerals for about 2 years now and I love it! It is awesome in all types of weather. The only time I have had trouble is if I am sweating when I try to apply, then it goes on too heavy for me- it was a really hot summer around here!

I may need to invest in some then, you ladies really make it sound wonderful! Thank you!

I use it, and so do my DD's(20 & 13). It's the only thing I will use now. We had temps of over 100 for 15 days in a row here with high humidity. I don't prespire heavily, but my makeup stayed on all day.

I am a Bare Minerals convert as well. It feels kind of odd that I'm no longer on the lookout for a "new" foundation after too many years of discontent. I love many of the products, but use different eye shadow and mascara as I have a brand that I love and works well for me. I will only use Bare Minerals foundation & mineral veil though. Tried Avon's mineral makeup once and it was like beach sand (coarse and grainy)

Thank you for all the tips, and on the Avon... yikes!

I'm tired of using liquid, it always feels so heavy to me, no matter what I get.

I've used it for years and years (first premiere on QVC). I still buy mine from QVC because of the ease of ordering and returning. Good luck. I have several glimmers and few other BE products but I really mostly just use the mineral foundation and mineral veil.
I haven't been impressed with her other products.

Are bare minerals and bare escentuals (Essentials?) the same thing??? The names seem to be used interchangably.....:confused3

Yes. Bare Escentuals is the company name. Bare Minerals is the line of make-up.

OP, I've been using Bare Minerals for over 4 years now. Love it! Highly recommend it! Many women on the DIS love it. Some also like Sheer Cover and Everyday Minerals. EM is cheaper. But I haven't tried the others as I'm happy with BM.

If you're just starting I recommend getting a starter kit directly from BE or from QVC or an Ulta or Sephora store. Some cities have an BE store too. I believe you can return the starter kit to any of those places if you don't like it. Start with the basics, then if you decide you like it, you can branch off into blushes and eyeshadows.

I tried Bare Minerals on recommendations from the DIS & I will never use anything else. I had used liquid makeup before & will never use it again.

The mineral makeup is light along with being quick & very easy to apply. I bought the starter kit, which comes with 3 brushes.

I bet if you give it a try you'll never use anything else!

I use it and love it. Will never go back. I started with the base kit and a blush (and all the brushes). Now, I use it all pretty much exclusively. I'll use other mascaras, but that's it. There's are okay, but only one form of waterproof. Other eyeshadows don't seem to play well with Bare Minerals?

Try a search on old threads for lots of tips.

I tried Bare Escentuals and found it did not give me the coverage I need. It also looked shiny and cakey, and made my face extremely itchy. I prefer Philosophy's Supernatural Airbrush foundation.

A friend of mine just received hers this afternoon and is letting me give it a test drive :) I can't wait!

Bare Escentuals is good, but it is not the best mineral makeup out there. It is simply the most popular because it has the most distribution and overall advertising.

I prefer a brand called Alima because it doesn't give you that plastic sheen that Bare Escentuals is famous for. (Although, if you have very dry skin, this is not completely undesireable. Oily skin should try another brand of mineral makeup.)

Alima will sell you small samples, has a ton of color selection, and I believe it is cheaper than Bare Escentuals. They also make eyeshadows, blushes, etc. just as Bare Escentuals does.

Everyday Minderals would be a close second. It does not contain the mineral that creates the "Bare Escentuals sheen." This particular mineral has also caused itchiness for some women.

You should check out makeupalley.com and do a search for mineral makeup. These girls KNOW their stuff.

I love Everyday Minerals and will never go back to liquid again. I started with the free sample (it was 3.95 for shipping). they have very good eye shadow colors also.

It is good for your skin and it held up at Disney in 96 degree pure sun. I did use my Green Tea Blotting papers from Boscia half way through the day.

I don't think a drug store brand or avon have much on either BE or EM. I have always heard horror stories about them here and on a beauty area on another forum.

I learned about Bare Minerals about two years ago through these forums. I have been a makeup princess forever, and used Dior, Clinique, Prescriptives, Lancome, Elizabeth Arden, Estee Lauder, and all the best of the best. But I could never find that "right" foundation. I absolutely love Bare Minerals, and it makes my skin look radiant. I have worn it year round, and haven't had any problems with it.

I love the foundation, the Mineral Veil, rose radiance, and the blushes. You need to find the right colors for your skin tone, and as has been mentioned, brushes are essential for application.
