Just being logical...

A regular AP RENEWAL actually IS it's own built-in discount.
Being able to simply decide to purchase a "renewal certificate" (at a locked-in lower price) well in advance and use it sometime at
an undefined "future date" doesn't track very well with AP policy.

If this were a "regular thing,"
why did Disney specifically change the renewal window from the traditional "30 days before"
to "60 days before" a few years back... to accommodate 60 day advance FP+ bookings.

You answer your own question in your second post. I've quoted it below, but the CM says the expiration date stays the same. So @SaintsManiac you won't be able to save them until 2020.

It has same rules as buying a renewal- exp date will be one year from when your old pass expired, if FL res or DVC proof of those must be brought in with you to activate

From what I have seen about purchasing an AP renewal in advance of the traditional "60 days before" window,
is that
the CM puts a special note ("Magic File") in the guest's personal WDW files that will allow
the Guest to pay for the renewal at a different time.

I read a LOT of posts, and that seems to be the remedy reported by all of the guests
who needed to renew their APs "early" for very specific (FP Booking) reasons.

But, I've learned that "anything is possible," so I can't verify or contradict anything about a
"AP Renewal Certificate."

I think you may be misunderstanding what is meant by a "renewal certificate" in this case. (Still to be confirmed by another source that it actually exists, but for the purposes of this discussion, let's say it does...)

This would not be to delay a renewal. It would not change expiration dates. The only purpose would be as a hedge against price increases. So in my case, if I had decided to try what she suggested:

First AP - 2/27/17 - 2/27/18
Renewed January 2018, at $705 (current renewal price for out-of-state Platinum) - Now good 2/27/18 - 2/27/19
PURCHASE a "renewal certificate" today for $705, and save it to be applied in January or February 2019 to extend my AP to make it good 2/27/19 - 2/27/20

I would be gaining no extra months on the AP, just paying this year's renewal price instead of next year's. Again, this is the word of only one person, as credible as she appeared. No corroboration from elsewhere, yet.

Again, I am only reporting what a person who claims to be a GR cast member explained on a fan page on FB. But the idea of "AP renewal certificates" has nothing to do with trying to extend or change an expiration date in any way. A renewal is a renewal; the dates remain the same. The only purpose, if this does exist, would be to pay this year's renewal price instead of next year's, to renew an AP (keeping the same expiration date) in 2019...or beyond.

yeah it's too complicated and uncertain for me to even think about beating this price increase. I was even thinking about buying new APs now for future use, but who knows what the future holds. I still have 6 day hoppers sitting in my desk that I bought 2 years ago.

You can definitely buy APs to use at a future date prior to 2030. This is not a question. If you want to do it - don’t wait!

I'm tempted, too, but I agree with the $ and we have unused tickets also...

Still, these increases are crazy and I'm sure the price of the other tickets will catch up to the price we are now able to pay for the AP (I would be buying the DVC Gold Pass).

Ugh. And, I don't see where the longer day ticket prices are going up - I've only seen up to the 5 day (but I have only taken this info in bit by bit since I don't have a trip planned, so maybe I missed it).

Tickets bought directly from Disney cost more now... and will not be "price-bridged" when being upgraded.

It's usually blocked the 2/3 weeks around Spring break and the last 2/3 weeks of December through January 2.
