Hello everyone,

First let me apologize for asking for donations through this source. It’s just that the last time I did, I was so impressed with the response that I thought I would try again. :grouphug:

Anyway, this is a project for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan, where I am a local volunteer. I have been asked to put together an “ultimate scrapbook kit” that will be auctioned off at the “Go for the Gold – Reach for the Stars” Gala in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

My charge is to assemble (specifically through donations) an ultimate scrapbook kit, complete with a book, idea books, paper, stickers, embellishments, basic supplies (scissors, glue squares, etc.) and anything else that would make a beautiful starter kit.

The theme for the book is BABY. Obviously, since this kit will be purchased by an unknown person at this time, we do not know if the book should be girl themed or boy themed. So, we are asking for supplies for both as well as gender-neutral supplies (pastel yellows, greens, etc. in addition to the pinks and blues).

Guidelines: We are looking for brand new supplies. The Foundation has asked that it not be a “hodge podge” of leftover supplies. Please keep the theme in mind when in comes to the book. (Obviously things like scissors, glue squares, etc. do not have to match the theme.) The book will be 12x12 size, although we do not have a donated book yet. CM consultants are also welcome to send things.

All supplies need to be received by Saturday, April 9th.

Please contact me at megan973@yahoo.com if you have any questions. If you plan on sending something, please contact me with what you will be sending, so I can get an idea of what items we still need for the kit. I will then give you the address to which you can send your items.

For more information about the gala event, please visit http://www.wishmich.org/Grand_Rapids_Gala2005.asp.

Thank you for your contributions to helping wishes come true for these kids!!!

Thank you for listening (reading!).

hey megan, I just emailed you my list, let me know if you don't get it. Good luck. maggie

Thanks maggie!

Did you have any particular luck with some companies on the list? I realize I don't have a ton of time to get this done, and I haven't really had much response from individuals up to this point.

Thanks again!
Megan

Megan,

I'll send some stuff. Not sure what yet, but I'm in.

HI Megan,

I'm sure Char and I will get some items together for you. Are there particular things that you need most? For instance paper or general supplies? You can email me too, if you'd rather.

Deb -

Wow! :Pinkbounc Thanks again for all of your support of the Make a Wish Foundation of Michigan. As far as types of items... I have not specifically asked anyone for paper. What about a combination of 12x12 paper and/or embellishments. (Probably no eyelets unless you were willing to send a setter as well.) Just thinking maybe like ribbon, tags, brads, etc. as well as plain or patterned paper to fit the baby theme. Boy or girl themed, since we don't know which.

Anything you can send will be very much appreciated. I have not had too many responses yet, so every little bit will help.

I want to make it as easy for people as possible, so if there are items you would like to send, please do so. Just let me know what you end up deciding so I can start keeping track of what we still need.

Let me know if you need my address again. I just need everything by Sat, April 9.

Thanks again Deb! You're a gem! :wizard:

I think this is a wonderful idea...I can't say enough good things about the wish foundations in general...they are awesome..as you may have gussed were a past wish family....and those foundations really WOW you. All the great things they do..But anyway I love your idea but I just wanted to know why "baby" theme was picked? Was there a reason behind that?

scrapperjill -

The Foundation encouraged me to pick a theme about "people." The scrapbook kit will be up for auction in front of a lot of weathly people, and their opinion was that if it was tied to a life event, the kit would raise more money. Obvisouly, my first theme choice was Disney!, but I was talked out of it.

The Foundation thinks that people will be purchasing this for a gift, and that baby or wedding would be more appropriate themes. I guess I preferred the baby theme, because someone could bid on the kit for themselves or for a gift, but probably not for themselves if it was a wedding theme. (Just thinking of the ages of people who will be there.)

The Foundation has also received a donated (new) bassinette and homemade quilt, so I believe they will be packaging the scrapbook kit with these items in hopes to bring in a higher bid for the auction.

Hope that answers your question! Thanks for your interest. Glad you had such a wonderful experience as a Wish family. I have found the MAW Foundation of Michigan and the families I've met so far to be truly inspiring. :wizard:

Thanks to Carrie, Deb and Jennifer & Christine who all donated supplies. I have yet to find out how much money we raised, but there were 5 bids on the item when I was able to get away from my volunteer post and check it out. We had a wonderful time at the event - I even got to see Olympian Shannon Miller!

Here are photos of the final kit. (We had to fill it on two sides because there was so much stuff!!!)

Thanks again for all of your help and your continued support of the Make a Wish Foundation of Michigan. :wizard:

Glad you had a great turn out. Wish I saw this sooner. I would have donated. Not sure how I missed it.

I missed this too - what a great idea though! I got my thank you letter yesterday for the princess scrapbook, that was a nice surprise. :)

Hi Megan!

What volunteer role do you fill at MAW other than requesting donations. Also, does your chapter have scrapbooking volunteers? The reason I'm asking is because I am the Volunteer Coordinator for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento and Northeastern California. I have a large group of wonderful ladies who create amazing memory books for our Wish Children. I keep thinking they should recruit on the DIS!

I also wanted to say thank you for your efforts on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It is a blessing to me to be able to work with such wonderful, caring volunteers like you. Thanks for helping our organization to bring hope, strength and joy to the human experience!!
