Ok so we are having a surprise 90th b-day party fo my Grandmother in April. Well my Mom wants a scrapbook for the occasion. Ok in theory this is no problem. I have some things and mom will pay for the things I need. So the big problem is I have never actually done a scrapbook because I have never been able to figure out what pictures I want to put in Also mom wants it so that all Grandma has to do after the party is to plop pictures in. So ok what do I do and how do I start!!! HELP!!!!!!

WOW! 90th Birthday sounds great! What great family she has! How about giving each member of the family a 12 x 12 scrapbook page and having them design their own with a fond memory they have about grandma. When grandma looks in it, she can reminisce!

Do you have access to a scanner -
or you could use a kodak picture maker at a store
I would just highlight her life with fewer good pictures (even if that means using the scanner or kodak machine to enlarge and fix flaws)
(I just did an 80th book this way...)
I would find a good photo and put it on one page and then put a poem or quote on the facing page. It was clean and simple on black pages. REALLY EASY and very distinquished looking.
Also I had a bunch of pieces of paper and photo safe pens at the party for everyone to write him 'memory notes'
Don't make it too frou-frou and it will be easy! :) HAVE FUN!

My mom wanted it to be for pictures she gets from the party so I have no idea what the pictures will be of. I had thougth of having at least her kids and grandkids write her a message the day of the party the I can put them in the book before I leave

oh if it is of the party that makes it much easier! Because then you are scraping an event and not a life! LOL!
I would still do what Patty said! and the first few pages of the book have some pictures of her life. also I love the idea of a each family creating a page. That way the book will have some impact on who she was!
Now as for the party think of the imporant parts of the party that you know lots of pictures will be taken
1. COming into the tparty
2. Cutting of the cake
3. Group shots (make sure to take an entire party shot with all the guest so bring a tri pod)
4. Generation page (picture of her with all the grand kids great grand kids etc)

Now to create the pages maybe harder if you haven't done a lot of scrapping. But keep it simple. I would go for a basic color and stick with that. Same back ground. Same colors for matting.
You will need a place for her to journal. Best to make a small square so she knows where to write.
I would then create mats for the pictures. And write in the center place photo here.
You can embellish using stickers, die cuts or other items found at craft stores.
Once you get started it should go rather quickly.
Also another great idea if the families can't create some scrapping pages, Have an autograph page. Where they can write fond wishes and some memories.
Hope that helps! And don't forget to get a picture of yourself with your grandma!

If you have a Target near you, I would check out the ColorBok albums they have there. They have 8x8 themed albums with borders sewn on with a pertaining quote on each page. They were on the end of the scrapbooking supply aisle. You might want to copy that idea because they are really cute!

Last year my cousin had a surprise party for my aunt and here is what she did. She bought a nice top loading 7 x 7 album. She cut paper to fit in various colors and added just the slightest embellishment to each page (small 3-d stickers, a simple border, etc.) something different on each page. She placed the album and all the lose pages in a basket at the door and a little sign asking each guest to take a page and write something to or about my aunt. After the party she had the pictures developed and matched them up to the guest and various notes and it turned out so wonderful. If I ever have the chance to do something like this, it's just what I'll do.

Who is taking the pictures? I have done books where I have made a list of specific pictures that I want and either taken them myself or had someone reliable that would take what I want. You could have the mats ready and mark what picture goes where. Or, is there a reason you can't put the pics in the book for her and then give her/mail her the book? That might be easiest.

I don't think I saw this suggested but you might want to get a couple of disposable cameras to have around for people to use too. You'd be surprised at what pictures others might add to the mix.

I did an album for my sister's 40th surprise party. I put a few disposable cameras out and got dupllicates from my siblings' cameras. I used a 5x7 album and made a border on each page (using a color scheme and similar stickers). Then we just had to plop the pictures in. It turned out well.
Using an album this size and using 4x6 photos didn't leave much room for journalling so you may want to use a bigger one.

Hi,
I was just wandering through and saw your post. I do a bit of it myself.

I did a scrapbook for my parent's 40th anniversary last August. It was a whole retrospective of their lives though. I did come across a really cool idea for an event scrapbook while I was searching out format ideas. It was an album that was done like an alphabet book. The example I saw was of a wedding but it could sure be done for a birthday, too. They began by gathering all the possible words that began with each letter that had to do with the event, such as B: Bride, bouquet, bow tie, balloon sculpture, etc. then chose one to highlight on a page. Then they made the B page by putting a photo of the bride and "B is for Bride" on it but also had the other words just scattered around written on the same page of paper. What you ended up with was a book that had 26 pages in it as well as a title page and a final page. I would probably embellished the words on the page too by adding little pictures of some of the words. I would have put a little bow tie sticker or drawn a bow tie next to the word on the B page as an example or a little balloon sticker next to the word balloon sculpture. It was a great way to focus on a single event. I'm sure I'll do something like that in the future because I liked it so much.
Happy scrapping whatever you decide to do!
