Major Flooding at Mendenhall Glacier

Since the Wonder heads out tomorrow some of the tours could be affected.

This is 12 miles from where the ship docks. Wonder if any of the tours go that far away?

We had our river rafting excursion there canceled in June because the river level was too low. And now they have to deal with flooding. Prayers for those who have lost their homes.

Back in 2018 they had flooding at this time when we were on our Alaskan cruise. I don't remember anything being cancelled. But the path/walk/hike to Nugget Falls at Mendenhall was underwater and closed. I’m sure adjustments will be made where possible. Those people who are working often only have an income during the tourist season.
I know they stopped going through Tracy arm for a period of time, and I was wondering how Mendenhall glacier was doing?
Did they ever get back to Tracy arm?

They do, last year, we had a DCL excursion that took us to the Hatchery, then the Mendenhall Visitors Center before going to a Salmon Bake. The break happened a few miles north of the visitor center.

After Tracy Arm it was Endicott Arm/Dawes glacier and now it appears to be a toss up and DCL lists it as Stikine Icecap which is a sort of general region, apparently, so that the captain can just make a call as where the better option is.

Mendenhall is receding dramatically. I saw a photo of if it the other day and compared it to our photo from just a few years ago and I was stunned.

We went to Tracy Arm on our 8/7 cruise. It was beautiful!

We did a whale watching cruise in Juneau and our boat captain mentioned how much debris had been in the sea from this. Like whole fridges floating in the water!
