major concern about quality inn international

Hello i have just read your post and thought i would reply to you to say that it's not to late to change your hotel, I was orrginally going to greece for my holiday this year and after reading about our hotel there being bad i decided to change. So my husband and i changed it to go to florida instead and i did this last friday and we are due to leave on the 4 september so it was within 5 weeks of departure, we had to pay an admin fee of about £30 each and also your holiday cost of your new holiday must not go below 10% of your old holiday costing and you must stay with the tour operator the first holiday was booked with, but speak to your travel agent first. If you have any other questions please email me.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Hello again everyone and thank you all for the advice and support!!

I'm ok now, just panicked a bit when I first read Chris's thread!!

I am a born panicker!!

Anyway, after speaking to Virgin I feel much calmer.

This is our first ever trip, and I want it to perfectly, and to be honest most of the holidays we book are either a fortnight in my mother-in-law-to-be's caravan in Hastings, or a week at Butlins, Bognor Regis! Dont get me wrong - I LOVE Butlins!!! And so do the kids!

But my fiance pointed out yesterday when I was stressed over all this - the QII has GOT to be better than Butlins' Value Chalets!!!

(Well it really cant be any worse :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: )

And we always enjoy our holidays there!

Thanks again though!

It is a basic hotel, We have stayed there twice now without any major problems, but will not be staying there again due to the attitude of some of the staff. Always found the rooms pretty clean and food ok, just rude reception staff. Our only problem was when requested a 2nd level pool view, and they gave us 6th floor of the tower furthest room away in the entire hotel. In saying that though they were very good at moving us.

We have stayed there twice, but a few years aho now. We had a problem with the sheets - they hadn't been changed. Housekeeping was not very good - but on the whole the hotel was fairly clean and the breakfasts were fine. We tended to eat out every night on I-Drive - lots of nice restaurants to choose from plus the Mercardo and The Pointe too.

If you do decide to change The Embassy Suites up the road is very nice and included in the price is all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.

Just remember - if you do not like your room whichever hotel you are staying in, 99% of the time the staff will try and change it - just be polite and friendly.

We stayed here in 2002 and had a great time. Breakfast buffet was enjoyed by all (2 free per person per stay, with kids eat free as well) and the choice was enormous. The kids had their own section to choose from.
I did have a little difficulty explaining to a local in the bar that an occasional glass of chilled wine was preferable to a beer sometimes - he thought I'd come from a different planet!
The shop inside was expensive compared to local shops on I-Drive but it was within walking distance to local supermarket to get supplies.
Room was ok Television looked old but worked(look out for the localWeather station to check that day's weather before deciding what to wear - we went in February some days very hot others with rain and a cool breeze)Coffee maker microwave and fridge in room.
Virgin rep onsite but also check out the tourist information desk on left hand side as you walk into main entrance.Their quotes for Disney tickets and transportation were cheaper than Virgin.
We are going back there again in February 2005 and look forward to having another great holiday.

Hi, just to add my 2p's worth. Hubby and I stayed here in March 2003 and had a great time. Yes the hotel is basic but the rooms were clean, as were the passageways and the pools. The bar is a tad expensive but if you head out of the International Drive exit, there is a sign on the other side of the road that says Pub. It's a local's place with pool tables and a jukebox and the drinks were really cheap - $3.75 for a pint of beer and a diet coke.

The dinner buffet wasn't too great but the breakfast buffet was really tasty. I personally wouldn't be too worried, unless standards have dropped that much in the past year or so but then I'm sure it wouldn't still be a Virgin Flagship hotel. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful holiday.

I've not stayed at the QII, so cannot offer any advice on this particular hotel.

However, what I would say is that sometimes people like me;) tend to overreact and - perhaps - do a smidgen more research than perhaps we need. I say this because two years ago our trip was to be ultra-special because I had just been made redundant so it was a 'cheer me up let's really splash out' trip. Through Virgin Hols I'd booked the Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa for our 6 nights in Orlando. Then I found Trip Advisor. Oh dear, the reports on there for this 5 star hotel were terrible, dire in fact. Mould on the walls, floors, beds, terrible services, smelly, murky swimming pool - you name it, it was that bad according to everyone. I even put a thread on the US boards asking for opinions, the above were repeated and I was told we really shouldn't go there.

So got in touch with Virgin who were surprised I wanted to change since it was one of their best hotels, but I reported all the comments and they let me change to an alterative no charge. They pointed out to me that if there were any problems, they have an excellent relationship with all their hotels in Florida and any problem would be immediately sorted out. My view was that there shouldn't be a problem in the first place!

When we were over there, I decided to satisfy my own curiosity and go check it out. What a dum dum I was. The hotel was magnificant, the rooms clean and the pool not murky. (I didn't regret my choice at the end of the day, though, because we stayed at the AKL instead).

I am sure none of you will have any problems with the QII - Virgin have their reputation to contend with and it is one of their Flagship Hotels - read their copy on what this means. I'd be tempted to send Virgin Hols an email to let them know of your concerns, take a copy with you and should (you won't I'm sure) you have any problems, get your email out in the resort.

Happy holiday - and happy wedding/honeymoon::yes::
