Major Announcement Secret is Out! Press Release Page 12

I am really sort of bummed out. I already know that I would never have a chance at winning a prize, big or small I just dont win things and the thought of winning something like this ..... ummm .... ya, well that happens to other people not me.

And I was wondering, all these "little" treats that no one really knows what they are, do you have to be IN the park to win them? How cool would it be if they sent AP holders a random treat (again wouldnt be me).

All I can say is I sure do hope someone from DIS wins so I ( yes I am nosey) can hear all about how great it is/was!!

I was wondering the same thing...are the people that win these dreams people who are already in the park that day or are they the people at home dreaming of being at Disney?? I think I'm missing something cuz everyone seems to be really excited and happy but I dont see how this directly effects anyone unless you're one of the extremely lucky and rare "winners"...I put that in quotations cuz they are being very vague about these dreams that can come true, all they seem to mention is the castle stay and a golden fastpass. I, like the above poster, just never wins anything at all, so I dont think any of this concerns me, right? Am I missing something????

Hey there Sistah! I was thinking the same exact thing to myself! But, I guess twins do that.
But it's true. It's a sweepstakes, so why not just call it a sweepstakes? Why make this big dramatic presentation and call it a "celebration" when it's not even something that can be shared by everyone equally?
And likewise, I too am pretty down on my luck prompting me to feel as though the celebration has nothing to do with me at all, despite the fact that I will be there after inception, because what are the chances of winning something so rare? I've never won anything in my life. Granted if I did win, it would no doubt be the single most unbelievable event of my life. But it's still a sweepstakes. The only people it's a celebration for are the winners.

It's not like it's a celebration where now I'm going to be more excited about my trip in October b/c of it, b/c, apparently, it's only a celebration if you win something (unless I'm missing something here, please don't hesitate to advise me if I am).
And as far as the new rides and attractions: Everyone knew about all those new attractions way before this new celebration was ever spoken of and they would've opened at their respective parks at those times regardless if they rolled out a new celebration or not. So they are just using those attractions as a way to promote this whole thing....Still, crossing my fingers.
:tink:

My understanding is that the contest is open to anyone in the US that registers to enter. That winner will be the family that on October 1 opens the celebration with their special day at the MK.

Then after Oct 1 for an entire year dreams such as spending the night in the castle and the other things listed will be given away to guests at Disney World and Disneyland.

As to how they will select the winner, I am sure the process will not be random selection by some CM, I mean what CM would even want to do that.

It will be ticket selection or something like that, or the 100th guest through the turnstyle at select attractions. The 50th person to purchase a magic wand.

Since no one will know what it takes to be selected anyone has as much a chance to win as anyone else. Bascially a pixie dust lottery.

Now more information might come out and this be all wrong, but that is my understanding at this time.

I could be wrong, but here is how I am understanding it.

The "contest" we are all entering on that website is to be the family that goes to WDW Oct. 1-4, 2006 to be the family to kick off the new year of stuff. I THINK that is the ONLY prize you can win by entering online.

The "dreams" will be awarded to people in the parks, so you have to already BE there before you can win. And I don't think it sounds like you get any choice in the matter! They aren't going to ask you what you want, they are going to TELL you what you get. Which is fine, I suppose.

The thing about personalizing the trip for your pirate or princess is kind of interesting. DS will be 10 right after our August trip so I don't think any of that "dream track" planning will be applicable to us. He doesn't want to be a pirate or a space ranger. Maybe 5 years ago, but not now.

I guess we'll see what other info is released in the next few months. Our December trip and our trips in '07 (one in March and the other TBD) probably won't be severely impacted by all this. We are buying APs and DDE so I won't be looking at packages for '07.

I do hope it turns out to be fun. I don't know if it will really do much to drive attendance, simply because it sounds like if you want anything special to happen you have to already be at WDW or DL. :confused3

Why isn't there anything on the official Disney website? I'm very confused. :confused3

Dont ever think you can't win,! I was like that and then I won a free trip to WDW from McDonalds when they were promoting their Happiest Celebration on Earth! We are going in December for our first trip to WDW courtesy of a promotion.

Just remember, SOMEONE has to win!! It could be any of us! Good Luck all!

please tell me if i'm not getting this right...

In addition, during the year-long celebration, other Disney dreams both large and small will be awarded in the "Disney Dreams Giveaway" promotion, such as:

Traveling to each Disney resort around the world to serve as grand marshal in a Disney parade.
A variety of unique Disney vacation experiences.
Admission to special parties and other extraordinary experiences in the Disneyland and Walt Disney World parks.
Private meetings with favorite Disney characters.
Or, a Golden FASTPASS ticket with unique access entitlements to some of Disney's most popular attractions.

that right there is what you can win if you enter the sweepstakes on the website only opened to US resident - right?

A day of royal treatment will end with a night of enchantment inside Cinderella Castle for a different lucky guest each night.

but the the whole surprises and spending the night in cinderella castle will be open to anyone going to wdw regardless of whether or not they live in the US, correct?

i'm truly hoping international disney fans will get the chance to spend the night there, otherwise it's not really fair. :goodvibes

Not quite - the sweepstakes prize is a trip for 4 to WDW Oct 1-4 and that family will be there to officially kick off this year long celebration. They will walk the red carpet on main street and then enter each land escorted by Disney characters to experience the rides alone. As each family leaves each land, regular guests will follow them and be able to start their day riding rides and such. If you go to www.mousesavers.com, this info is at the bottom of the info about this promo.

The other prizes you listed including spending the night in the castle, being a marshal in all parks worldwide, etc are the prizes that will be awarded daily in all parks. HTH:)

Agreed:

1. The online sweepstakes is open to US residents only. the prize is a trip to WDW on 10/1-10/4 for 4 people and includes air, hotel, MYW tix etc...The winner does NOT sleep in the castle. The winner WILL have certain areas of the park all to themselves and have the characters all to themselves. This lucky family will be the ones to "kick off: the new promotion.

2. ANYONE can win the "million dream" prizes, just by being IN the park beginning 10/1. Even if you are not a US resident.

3. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo sick of everything Nemo (and I liked the movie!). It's almost as bad as everything Stitch (him I detest). Tarzan should've been left alone.

4. It's about dang time Monster's Inc got an attraction (though it would have fit better into the theme of Fantasyland). I also wish it had been a dark ride that mimicked the "closet door" scene from the end of the movie. However, I LOVES me some Mike Wyzowski and Sully so it's all good!

I wonder what the "dreams" fulfilled will be? Can you ask for your whole trip to be comped? How about AP's for life? A DVC membership?? What what WHAT???

I was really hoping they would put the Monsters Inc. ride over in MGM. That park really needs more ride attractions. The current rumor out is that MGM will be getting a Toy Story ride sometime in 2008. It will be placed where Al's Toy Barn is currently located. Guess we'll have to wait and see if the rumor is true.

This was in the Orlando Sentinel this morning (6/9/06):

Disney set for 'Year of Million Dreams'
The promotion will include sleepovers at Cinderella Castle for certain lucky visitors.

ADVERTISEMENTS

It's every little girl's dream come true: spending the night in Cinderella Castle.

Such sleepovers will be part of a "Year of a Million Dreams" national promotion that the Walt Disney Co. announced Wednesday night.

Every day for a year, beginning Oct. 1, a family will be picked to move into the "royal chambers" and spend the night at the Magic Kingdom castle.

The promotion, along with a worldwide advertising campaign called "Where Dreams Come True," is aimed at surprising visitors with previously unimagined experiences, Disney officials said.

"We'll be empowering our cast to basically deliver some once-in-a-lifetime experiences to some of our guests," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Some people wandering the Disney property will be handed scrolls inviting them to gala balls. Riders on Pirates of the Caribbean might find pirates taking the seats beside them. Others will be handed "Golden Fastpass" tickets that allow them to get into much shorter Fastpass lines at rides all day.

One family even will be picked in the next year to have Magic Kingdom to themselves for a few hours.

The campaigns also will involve a handful of new attractions, including the previously announced "Finding Nemo: the Musical" show at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and a new "The Seas with Nemo and Friends" ride through Living Seas at Epcot. A couple of other rides, such as Space Mountain, are going to get changes.

But the chance to spend the night at Cinderella Castle is sure to get the most attention from little girls and their parents.

"If we came here to Cinderella's Castle, you would meet her," said 7-year-old Adalina Harris of McAllen, Texas, who was visiting the Magic Kingdom on Wednesday with her parents and brother.

Disney lore has it that about 10 stories up from the castle moat, an apartment was built when the castle was opened in 1971. Whether it was intended to be Walt Disney's apartment (he died in 1966) or his brother Roy's, the apartment was never finished and never lived in. Until now.

The winning visitors will be picked at random through a system being developed by consultants, a Disney spokesman said.

The visitors could be picked in the parks, in Disney hotels or even at Downtown Disney, where the general public can wander for free -- just as long as they're on Disney property.

This new campaign comes immediately after Disney's "Happiest Celebration on Earth" promotion for Disneyland's 50th anniversary, which was credited with boosting attendance at Disneyland and Disney World.

"Perhaps this campaign may yield good results as well," said Ady Milman, a business professor at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida.

This year, Disney opened a major attraction -- Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom -- but no major attractions were announced for the coming year.

Instead, Disney will focus on visitor experiences, such as the castle sleepovers.

But why stop with the castle, wondered Ron and Anita Dick of Wichita, Kan. They were visiting Wednesday with their teenage grandchildren, who they said loved Tower of Terror.

"They need to put an apartment there. If they did Tower of Terror, that would interest the teenagers," she said.

And this is Disney's Official Press News Release:
June 07, 2006
DISNEY PARKS INTRODUCES "WHERE DREAMS COME TRUE," A WORLDWIDE INITIATIVE TIED TO GLOBAL CONSUMER INSIGHTS

BURBANK, Calif. (June 7, 2006) – Disney Parks announced today a global initiative, "Where Dreams Come True," which will unify its global efforts like never before and go to the very heart of what makes Disney Parks unique. Incorporating key insights from the successful Disneyland 50th anniversary, this new organizing principle will usher in a new era of broader global marketing and guest customization at Disney Parks and will be highlighted by Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration.

"Where Dreams Come True" will be Disney's first-ever initiative that fully integrates and encompasses its entire global portfolio of parks and resorts. It is rooted heavily in consumer insight – gained through two years of extensive research around the world – that reveals a singular view of Disney Parks.

"We have a great history of listening to our guests and through our research they have told us consistently, whether surveyed in London, New York City, Hong Kong, Los Angeles or Paris, that Disney Parks are synonymous with the idea of 'Where Dreams Come True,' " said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "The very notion is core to our DNA – our parks are indeed the places 'Where Dreams Come True.' "

The ideology of "Where Dreams Come True" will permeate virtually every consumer touch-point, beginning with the vacation planning process and continuing during the Disney Park vacation experience through to the return home. Consistent global messaging and visual iconography will be centered on the universally understood principle of dreams to ensure emotional resonance with audiences around the world.

"This initiative is global in reach from a marketing perspective because of the intrinsic power of the idea. After all, everybody has a dream – the notion crosses all cultures, languages and geographies," said Michael Mendenhall, executive vice president, global marketing for Disney Destinations, LLC. "This initiative will speak in one voice to guests around the world and will permeate multiple consumer touch-points, taking our guests' vacation experience to an altogether new level."

The creative elements of the campaign leverage the findings of the consumer research insight that identified Disney Parks as transformational experiences. The series of inspirational video assets being created in to support the event and campaign are designed to evoke an emotional response and convey in magical ways the emotional transformations that happen every day at Disney Parks worldwide.

Disney Parks has tapped a world-class team of creative visionaries to bring this global campaign to life. A team of top advertising talent, including top photographer Gus Butera and famed directors Tarsem and Leslie Dektor, will work in collaboration with agencies Leo Burnett, McGarry-Bowen and Yellow Shoes (Disney Parks' in-house creative team) to implement Disney Parks' first-ever worldwide advertising campaign.

In addition, Disney Parks announced today that it has added world-renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz to the creative team. Leibovitz will be creating a celebrity-based campaign that will convey how these experiences transport people from the ordinary to the extraordinary. In addition to photography, Leibovitz will – for the first time ever – use film production.

"This array of talent represents a true 'Dream Team,' " Rasulo said, "and speaks to our excitement and commitment to our 'Where Dreams Come True' initiative."

Ushering in an exciting era of interactivity, Disney Parks will employ new technologies that allow guests to customize aspects of their Disney vacations like never before. These technologies will allow the Disney Parks experience to begin for guests as soon as they begin planning their vacation, then deliver an unparalleled level of convenience and guest service during their "custom" visit to a Disney Park.

The unifying theme of "Where Dreams Come True" will be the platform for communications at each Disney Park across the world. And each park will add to the mix messages about events and milestones with special appeal for guests there – whether it is the 15th anniversary of Disneyland Paris Resort, the 25th anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland Resort or the continued introduction of the Disney Park experience to a new region of the world at Hong Kong Disneyland.

In the United States, Disney will launch the "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration on Oct. 1, 2006, at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Building on the core equity of guest service that sets Disney apart from other brands, cast members at these Disney parks, for this year only, will award a million dreams, both large and small, to guests selected through a random process as part of the "Disney Dreams Giveaway."

Dreams, granted on both coasts, will include an overnight stay in Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World Resort or the Mickey Mouse Penthouse at Disneyland Resort, unique Disney vacation experiences, admission to special parties and theme park experiences, private meetings with favorite Disney characters, or a Golden FASTPASS ticket with unique access entitlements to some of Disney's most popular attractions.

More information about "Where Dreams Come True" and the "Year of a Million Dreams" is available at www.mydisneyparks.com. No purchase necessary for the "Disney Dreams Giveaway" promotion – subject to official rules which will be available on Oct. 1, 2006. Odds of winning any prize will depend on the number of eligible entries. Void where prohibited.

Does anyone think that Disney will give out extra scrolls and such during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party? I think that would be an opportune time to give away some extra "dreams" to families. :confused3

That would be awesome, wouldn't it????

As a married couple with no kids, I get the sense that a "family" receiving dreams is going to mean a family with children. It's sort of a bummer, since grownups are special, too!

I'm not sure they could do that (or should!). I'm guessing they'll define 'family' as any group of people because, when you think about it, otherwise it would be a nightmare and there could potentially be uproar. What about uncles/aunts or grandparents raising children, foster families, single moms, single Dads, same gender couples etc. etc. Surely Disney wouldn't want to offend anyone (nor should they). Hopefully 'family' will be defined as any group of 2 or more people travelling together in the theme park. As for what solo travellers would do then, I'm not sure.

Also, although none of us know yet, hopefully 'dreams' will be anything from a free t-shirt to a free dinner to a free Golden Fastpass so many of the dreams could be relevant to all. Let's hope!

One thing's for sure though, I'm not telling the children anything about this or else they'll be looking over their shoulder the whole time wondering if a CM is about to give them a prize and asking me how do you win etc. Our dream come true is just getting to WDW, no further dreams required. :)

I know what you are saying.
We are a family of 3 and I think the "ideal" family is mom, dad, brother and sister.
Our child is a boy (6) and I think for spending a night in the Castle they will be focusing a lot on little girls.

I hope that is not the case because although I have a boy he LOVES Castles and he would think it would be cool to sleep in the Castle at Disney World.

Of course we would all think it is cool if Pirates sit with us on the Pirate ride, especially if any look like Jack Sparrow :thumbsup2

We have a trip planned from Sept 30-Oct 7th so we will be right in the beginning of it. I am afraid because I have a feeling it will bring more crowds.

I am not too excited about this new promotion. Sure it will be nice to win something but like many people we are just not too lucky to win anything big.
That's OK. The CMs have always brought us magic in small ways and those are very special.
We probably will never sleep in the Castle or win a Golden Fastpass BUT my son thought it was the coolest to ride up front in the Monorail and the CM let him honk the horn and let him sit in the driver's seat (after we stopped) and told him he was his co-pilot :) We will always remember Bob (the Monorail CM) for making our WDW trip just a little more special.

We won't change how we treat the CMs. We always say Hi and smile at them, everyone from the mousekeepers to the counter service CMs to the bus drivers to the ride operators. If we get a special magical surprise GREAT but if we dont, that's OK...I am still HAPPY as can be because I am in DISNEY WORLD! :thumbsup2

I read in the unofficial guide that Disney applied for a patent for new FastPass technology. This includes:

Golden Fastpass -unlimited front of the line (instant Fastpass for all attractions - may even include non-FastPass attractions)

Surprise FastPass (you put your ticket in and get 2 FastPasses instead of one),

Bonus FastPass (get FastPass for two attractions at one kiosk),

Multi Fastpass (give multiple fastpasses from a central kiosk once per day per guest),

FastPass scheduling for resort guests (resort guests can schedule their day, by selecting a number of fastpasses from thier resort TV )

It sounds like from the press release that a lot of the "dreams" given away will be of the FastPass variety.

So the likelyhood of getting some of these "dreams" is very high if you are a Disney resort guest.

:bounce: Jumping for joy

I hope you're right! I just feel like whenever Disney CMs pick families out for special things, like parades or park opening, it's always the archetypal family... mom, dad, plus two or three kids.

And I do very much understand wanting to put a smile on a kid's face. But, you know... I'm human, and I'm a kid at heart, and I want a chance to win!

Will they really be giving away 1,000,000 "dreams" ??

1,000,000 divided by 365 days that the promotion runs = 2,740 "dreams" per day

I'm not sure how they will split the "dreams" given away up between Disneyland and WDW, but no matter how you look at it, that's alot of "dreams" !!

Am I taking this too literally ?

It sounds like fun to me ! :wizard:
