Major Announcement Secret is Out! Press Release Page 12

In the United States, Disney will launch the "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration on Oct. 1, 2006, at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Building on the core equity of guest service that sets Disney apart from other brands, cast members at these Disney parks, for this year only, will award a million dreams, both large and small, to guests selected through a random process as part of the "Disney Dreams Giveaway."

I think the "Year of a Million Dreams" promo will take place in the US parks/resorts only ... if I'm interpretting the article from the Orlando Sentinel correctly ? :confused3

Can anyone clarify ? :listen:

Whoops ... Edited to say the above excerpt is actually from the official press release.

Pouncingpluto: FEAR NOT oh ye of the "non-archetypical" family!! On our honeymoon last October my brand spankin' new DH and I got picked to be the grandmarshalls of the MNSSHP parade. We were on the KTTK tour during the day with tour guide Mark (a super guy with amazing knowledge of MK). We had a blast. At the end of the tour I asked Mark if DH and I would be the only adults in costume for the party that night and therefor look silly. He said "No WAY!" and then asked what we were dressing as (Mousketeers Cubby and Annette). He told us to stop by the tour desk when we arrived for the party that night and ask for him, but I said we had dinner ressies at LTT at 5:30pm but we'd find him after if we could.

Well bless his heart, Mark hunted us down AT LTT! He found us way in the back of the restaurant (where we were quite the celebrities in our costumes. CM's and guests were gushing over it. People even made us take pics with them!). Then Mark asked us if we would be the grand marshalls of the parade and to meet him at the parade starting point at X time. You would have thought we won the lotto!!

Some DIS'ers even had photos of us from the vacation photos. It was awesome!!!!

So don't worry...Disney takes care of ALL it's guests and ALL "families".

WTH?? I typed the word P L U T O and this came up pluto

Does it work for Mickey and Minnie and Goofy too?

Since it said that consultants were currently determining how the sleepover dreams would be awarded, I'd bet it has a computer tie in. Maybe some random thing like the 583rd person in AK that day, or the 53rd turkey leg sold that day, or some purchase # at World of Disney, x guest checking into POP that day, etc...

What I'm curious about is after the year long promotion, will the castle suite become the most expensive accommodation on the planet? It would be pretty smart to rent that thing out for a ton of cash each night.

As a married couple with no kids, I get the sense that a "family" receiving dreams is going to mean a family with children. It's sort of a bummer, since grownups are special, too!

Woah! That is so weird, you just took the words right out of my mouth and I almost just posted the same exact thing!
I Totally agree.
I definitely get the feeling that they are aiming this thing toward families with kids (they reference several times "A family" may win this "a family" may win that).
So, being an adult who usually travels with my husband or my twin sister, this leaves me feeling a little less excited. To make everyone feel included they should just stick to using the phrase "guests"
BUt we'll see what happens. My sister and I will be there in October, so who knows, we'll just have to somehow get the attention of the castmembers when we see them and see if they notice us and think we're deserving of our own scroll.

do you think dreams will be made starting on Oct. 1st for sure? I thought I read that the Castle sleepover thing wasn't going to be ready until Jan.

We are in Ak on 10/1 and MK on 10/2 it would be neat to see a dream come true for a family (even if it was one standing in line next to us) on the very first few days.....& how will they know it's a dream of yours? The fast pass thing or being invited to a ball or something like that is one thing, but making a dream come true how will they know? Maybe they'll have an entry form and then pick from that every day?

This will be neat to see it unfold...especially if people post about it. :cheer2:

I read in the unofficial guide that Disney applied for a patent for new FastPass technology. This includes:

Golden Fastpass -unlimited front of the line (instant Fastpass for all attractions - may even include non-FastPass attractions)

Surprise FastPass (you put your ticket in and get 2 FastPasses instead of one),

Bonus FastPass (get FastPass for two attractions at one kiosk),

Multi Fastpass (give multiple fastpasses from a central kiosk once per day per guest),

FastPass scheduling for resort guests (resort guests can schedule their day, by selecting a number of fastpasses from thier resort TV )

It sounds like from the press release that a lot of the "dreams" given away will be of the FastPass variety.

So the likelyhood of getting some of these "dreams" is very high if you are a Disney resort guest.

:bounce: Jumping for joy

Wow! I love it! I hope that's really true because that is Fabulous! :woohoo:

I'm not sure they could do that (or should!). I'm guessing they'll define 'family' as any group of people because, when you think about it, otherwise it would be a nightmare and there could potentially be uproar. What about uncles/aunts or grandparents raising children, foster families, single moms, single Dads, same gender couples etc. etc. Surely Disney wouldn't want to offend anyone (nor should they). Hopefully 'family' will be defined as any group of 2 or more people travelling together in the theme park. As for what solo travellers would do then, I'm not sure.

Also, although none of us know yet, hopefully 'dreams' will be anything from a free t-shirt to a free dinner to a free Golden Fastpass so many of the dreams could be relevant to all. Let's hope!

One thing's for sure though, I'm not telling the children anything about this or else they'll be looking over their shoulder the whole time wondering if a CM is about to give them a prize and asking me how do you win etc. Our dream come true is just getting to WDW, no further dreams required. :)

I know what you mean. My children are older so I'm guessing we won't have as much of a chance with parents having little ones.

Although my daugher is 26 years old and loves Cindarella. She would just freak out.

I'm just as bad. I love disney and I'm like a lttle kid. I have just about everything that is Mickey. Personal things, my home decor, etc. I stand in lines to get my picture taken with the characters. I usually get some strange looks from others because I get so excited. My husband and my kids put up with alot from me when it comes to Disney.

I've never been to WDW except in August. We can only afford to go one time a year if I'm lucky. I keep trying to talk my husband into going with just the two of us in either October for the MNSSHP or December for the MVMCP.
He would rather go for Halloween since that is his favorite and mine would probably be December since Chrissmas is my favorite time of year and WDW is my favorite place in the whole world.

I can dream!!!!!

Pouncingpluto, I'd like to address something that you said. It's about being a "typical" family. I can vouch that the CM's don't only choose man, woman and boy and girl type families! It's always been just me and dd17. We were chosen one year to "open" Epcot. My daughter (who was 10 at the time) was really suprised and excited. They even mailed us a certificate to our home. There are many definitions to "family" and Disney is wonderful about ignoring the typical!

I got a few surprise fastpasses during our trip in May, so I can vouch for that one!

I agree that I don't think they're aiming necessarily to the "ideal" family of husband, wife, boy and girl...However, I do agree that they are aiming to parent(s) with child(ren). I think that the majority of the winners are going to be children or involve children b/c they probably feel that those are the people it means the most too.
But I just want to say that that is not true. I would be a giddy as a 5 year old if someone approached me (I'm 25 going on 26) and told me I was oging to be the one spending the night in the castle, or winning any of those prizes.

This sounds so exciting! We will be there in May, and now I am even more excited about our trip!!!

Does anyone else remember the 15th anniversary party that WDW threw? Every 15 seconds someone entering the park at the ticket machines won a prize. We won a few things (a 1 day ticket, which we still have, and some other small prize). I wonder if they will tie in some prizes that way again?

The way to make this promotion really successful, IMO, is to have lots of little prizes (like the extra fastpasses being spit out) that make many people feel like winners. Sure, it would be fun to win a night's stay in Cindy's castle, but I would love to win even a little prize - that would feel like a dream come true too!

The year-long celebration, beginning Oct. 1, 2006, at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, will feature the debut of an incredible lineup of new attractions and entertainment at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts, plus new technologies that allow guests to customize their Disney park experience.

I hope this doesn't mean the new fastpass system people keep talking about. That would stink.

Sounds like the "new technology that would allow guests to customize their Disney park experience" is the ability for resort guests to schedule FastPasses from their resort TV and for day guests to go to a central kiosk once per day per ticket and get muliple Fastpasses.

I'm just guessing here, nothing official has been said about this. I'm basing my conjecture on patents Disney applied for, as per The Unofficial Guide. I could be completely wrong, the language sounds erily similar, though. I'm not sure if logisitically they will be able to successfully pull off all of the FastPass variations listed in the patent. I'm just hoping the one where you can order fastpass from the resort TV works out, bc that would be soooooo... AWESOME!!!!!! :bounce:

You know, I remember reading that as well... But I've read so much about it in the past 24 hours that I have no idea where now LOL :confused3

We go on November and I love the planning process !!
ANY little "extra" I could get would make me smile !! :teeth:
I wonder what they mean by "dreams" anyway ??? Will they just give you something with no choices ??? Or give you a list to pick from ??? Like Dining, a free Pal Mickey, a Tour, Hotel Upgrade to a Suite ?????
I MUST KNOW DETAILS !! The Excitement & Waiting is too Much !! pixiedust: :tinker:
Did everyone get their "Tease" e-mail from Disney Destinations ???
And my 2 cents on the Fastpasses, is, it sounds pretty Cool !!
