We are taking advantage of the gorgeous weather and are hoping to find some ice cream. Sadly, browns and foxes aren't open yet. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Just chiming in here to say I am so jealous that you are eating ice cream in my favorite place!

Well it is a little bit of a hike from there(20 min?) Hodgies in Salsbury MA. Order the small! Really order the small! Better than Browns waAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Fox's.

well we are back. it was so much fun and so beautiful up there! definitely NOT typical april weather. finally found ben and jerry's open in kennebunkport, but nothing until we got there. and even they were only open because the mgr decided to take advantage of the weather, he said they were normally only going to be open on the weekend.

4/20 and 4/27 seem to be the opening dates for most places.

still a wonderful and unexpectedly warm couple of days up in the seacoast region of maine. love it!!!! :) :) :)

It's school vacation week and I have been lucky enough to spend much of it at my sister's in York, and you are right, almost nothing is open. Good ol' Dairy Queen in Kittery IS open, though, and my nieces and I enjoyed cones on both Monday and Tuesday, as a follow-up to long walks on Long Sands. OK, a bit of a drive for an ice cream, and DEFINITELY not Brown's, but hey, it's only April vacation and the weather's been incredible!!! I'll take it :cool1:!!

(PS... it's a bit inland, but Aggie's in South Berwick has great ice cream! Still, nothing beats Brown's ginger, imo, although they serve Shaine's of Maine ice cream now. I still remember when I was a kid and the Brown family made all their own ice cream... sigh...)

If you're up that way again, drive a little more north and stop at Garside's in Saco. Garside's is an ice cream stand on Rt. 5 in Saco, Maine. They've been there for over twenty years and have some of the best homemade ice cream in the state. Lots of different flavors.:) Locals know where all the good stuff is!:thumbsup2

Also in Saco, and a place that tourists know about, is Martel's Ice Cream on Rt. 1. Delicious homemade ice cream and fudge.

Both places are seasonal.

Garsides in Saco is good. Big Daddy's in Wells is good too. But don't know if either of them are open. Shaker Pond ice cream in Sanford (inland) is good as well.

I am not sure if this place is still there or if it would be open yet, but I did an internship in York about 6 years ago and we loved visiting The Village Scoop in York Village, a little drive away from the beaches.
