DH is getting sent to Maine for his job for 5 days in a few weeks and I was hoping he'd be able to bring home some seafood for us :cool1: Has anyone done this before? He'll be flying out of Milwaukee... just wanted some info on how it can be done (coolers, etc.) on the airplane. Thanks!!!

When I was a flight attendant, and would fly out of Portland, ME, there were always boxes and boxes of lobster. The places the passengers bought the lobster from would package it appropriately.

My parents go to Maine once or twice a year and they always bring back lobster. They drive, though. They are packed really nicely in a cooler.

You could also look into shipping them. I know when my parents went to San Fran a few years ago they shipped a bunch of crabs back home to Long Island.
It might cost a little more, but may be worth not having to carry them around!

Heavy duty box, thick cooler, and lots of dry ice. Usually the box has a wax lining to help prevent any leaks.

Sure...I've sent lobster to California more than once. A good lobster pound or fish market (especially in Maine) will know how to pack them up for him.

Thank you everyone! I'm so excited now... I'm a big seafood fan but DH won't touch the stuff. I wish it was me getting sent there :) At least I know now I'll have a feast when he gets home!

Linda Bean's is located right in the airport and they'll pack them up for you! Enjoy!

When I lived in Alaska people used dry ice to fly out with salmon but I that made me wonder will it still be alive????
Sorry not really much of a lobster eater.

Lobster can live out of the water for quite a while if it's kept cold.

He's not quite sure yet. They haven't given him too much info.

I'd be really surprised if he was flying in/out of Bangor. That would be an exception. If he's not flying in/out of Portland- Manchester and Boston would be the other options. Either way- there are enough places around that pack for planes. Not a worry. They will have all the packing materials as well.

If he is going to be in Portland tell him to go right down to Commercial St. There are a few little places right on the wharf that will take good care of him. I'm pretty sure Linda Bean's at the airport is pretty pricey if I'm not mistaken. He's coming at a nice time of year!!

Where will he be working?

He'll be learning how to install a new driving aid for handicapped people. Not sure where yet. His work is so hush hush about everything till they get it in place for him.

There's a possibility he'll be sent to Italy sometime next year. If that's the case, I'll be tagging along on that trip for sure!

My DH would sometimes travel to Memphis where my family is from. We don't have BBQ here, well not REAL bbq so DH would bring it back on the plane. The restaurant would pack it for travel. No problems.
