So, things changed since I was there (it's only been 18 months, but seems like forever).
They've done away with the MK welcome show and are letting people onto Main Street and into the hub at 8 am - is that right?
Are the shops open? If they are, are they crazy busy with people having nothing else to do? Is there a 40 minute line at the bakery?

Everyone is allowed into main Street and the welcome show is at the castle. I have yet to go during the new process but I know stores are open and I imagine the Starbucks line extends out the door

I agree, I've done the 8-9AM Main Street thing a few times now (April, May, and & July) and the Starbucks hasn't been nearly as crowded as I expected. The whole setup allows for a much more gradual and spread out flow of people on/around Main Street and the Hub. It's almost rather peaceful frankly. Ok, peaceful may be too generous a word... but what I mean is it doesn't feel crazy crowded or busy to me. I hated to see the train welcome show go, but this new setup for a 9AM opening is soooo much better, IMHO.

There's nothing that smells that bad that can be good for you!

I'm shocked the Starbucks line is manageable in the morning. I just picture that's where a lot of people are heading with the new set up.

I see that line sometimes throughout the day when it's backed up to the door and we just have to skip Starbucks because we don't feel like waiting 30 min in there.

Yeah, I hear you. To my eye it seems like - generally speaking - the flow/volume of people arriving in that hour just isn't enough to make the line super long. Don't get me wrong, it's not empty, but I haven't seen it at the door like you do during the day sometimes.

You also have people on many different agendas at that hour... some just strolling taking pics, some waiting for photopass, some shopping, some jockeying at the ropes to different lands, some want their Starbucks fix. It seems relatively spread around to me. :-)

Can you get Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards before the 9 am opening, or is that not open until the park officially opens?

Great - thanks we are trying to do an 8am opening this trip and was wondering if they opened it earlier.

I did an 8AM opening a few weeks ago, first time I had done an opening that early frankly. Wow - LOVED IT! I'm a RD person to begin with but this was even better! Got so much done between 8-10AM, we were ready to go back to Poly by that point!

For 9 am opening, about 8:50 usually, as long as all the opening paperwork is completed.

For those of you not part of the Starbuck's crowd, there's always Kona Island at the PVR that serves Kona coffee in the mornings. It's the first thing off the monorail if you're traveling the loop or if you walk the short distance from the TTC.

Sounds great - when the kids were little we did rope drop - now they are late nighters - but we will definitely do a rope drop this time. Thanks!
