Main Street Eletrical Parade

The Disneyland.com site suggests that it will be running during the holidays, though it's not on their schedule? :confused3 I keep hoping it will pop up, at least on the weekends! I can't remember if we saw it last year at DCA during December, or not?

So the Electrical Parade only comes out for the holidays?

Does it make a few appearances during summer or any other time of the year?

I'm far from an expert about this, but I'm almost positive that it comes out other times of the year. It's something they do during 'busy seasons'.

I know that the Electrical Parade was originally made to add something to summertime nights.

LOVE this parade.

Brief parade history (hey, I said I love it!):

The Main Street Electrical Parade was at Disneyland on and off for many, many years. It closed in the mid-90s.

Disneyland then sold light bulbs from the floats. They came in a cool box and you got a single light bulb that was certified as being part of an ELP float. I received one as a gift from my then boyfriend, now husband, and thought it was one of the coolest gifts! (A little piece of Disney history.)

Then the floats were fixed up again and sent to WDW for a brief bit (couple of years, I think). They were then sent back to Disneyland, but at this point, it was now the newly done DLR with DCA. People were dying to have the Parade back at Disneyland. Meanwhile, DCA was not really succeeding in the way that had been hoped when it opened. So, being the marketing geniuses that Disney's people are like none other, they took the parade everyone wanted and put it in the park that no one was going to - along with a name change: Disney's Electrical Parade.

It generally runs daily during the summer and on the weekends during some other periods of the year (not exactly sure when). Based on the calendar on disneyland.com it looks like it's returning daily this year on December 19th through January 2nd (although there seems to be no show on New Year's Eve - crowds, anyone? ;) ).

Did I mention that I LOVE this parade? I can hear the techno-ish music in my head as I type this. My wish is that everyone at some time in their life gets to enjoy the Electrical Parade. It truly brings out the kid in you!

We'll be there on the 4th and 5th. Will it not be going then? Bummer!

ETA: On Friday, Nov. 28, the DCA calendar listed the DEP for Sunday, Jan. 4.

That's great! Thanks!

We saw in it Jan 08., the last Friday of the month. Now after reading all of these posts, I can't figure out why it was showing?? I am so thrilled, as it was the only thing I really wanted to see. Maybe it was like my own special personal "dream".... :)

The Block Party Bash left DCA in early Jan '08 (to go to the Hollywood Studios at WDW).

The DEP had extra showings until the Pixar Play Parade arrived in March '08. :goodvibes

I saw it too, on Jan 25th. Glad to get to see it, as the music is my second favorite memory of Disney, second only to IASW's music!

And I can definitely say that it is FRUSTRATING to see the DEP "advertised" on their holiday pages as being part of the Holiday Season, but to NOT have it playing the entire holiday season. Very very VERY uncool of them, IMO. Sneaky, even.

Aaaah, now I get it! Well I am so thrilled. I hadn't even realized before I went to DLR that everything doesn't play all the time, like at WDW. Well we must have just timed it perfectly, I was dying to see that parade again... fond memories from my childhood! :) Thanks for clearing it up for me!

Kim :)

This is so true! I love this parade. I saw it for the first time last February, then again when the whole family went to DL in April. It's very beautiful, it's perfect to see at night (I have lots of very dark Parade of Dreams photos), and I love the little bugs!!!

It sure is! I think they show it in the TV commercial as well as part of their holiday line up. It is one of my favorites too. I thought we would get to see it this trip. :sad1:

i agree! when booking our december trip, that was one of the things i took into consideration...when the parade would start showing....BUT it was going to be a whole $500+ to go the weekend of 12/18 rather than the weekend of 12/11. so i figured that i didn't love the DEP that much...LOL! as 1st time AP holders, i'm sure hope that during one of our trips back to DL in the next 10 months, we'll finally get to see the DEP as a family!
