Main Street Electrical Parade Returning!

World of Color is currently dry! So, it's now a skeleton sitting out and baking in the sun. But seriously, the lagoon has been drained so they can FINALLY fix the fountains. WOC incoming (summer 2022 is my guess).

LOL, I had the same thought had to use a template site to generate the meme because I am on my phone. On my laptop, I probably would have made my own with a dry skeleton.

as soon as I hear the synth “ladies and gentlemen boys and girls” I am instantly filled with bliss, teleported 30 years back in time, and has the dumbest smile on my face for the next 15 minutes.

I can never get enough of that parade. Those crafty ******** at Disney know how to pull on my heart strings. Just when I started thinking “I’m out” with regards to all the Chapeking at the parks, they do something like this and pull me back in.

And they know it!

I seriously believe there is an entire team dedicated to making sure this parade remains in good working condition because the number of times they've "retired" it and then miraculously brought it back is comical. I would have thought "retire" would mean they would literally trash the floats or repurpose then, but clearly not.

i have visions of a beautiful, climate controlled warehouse FULL of light bulbs and a dedicated team of people tending lovingly to these floats. They are Disneylands insurance policy for bad times.

I've already booked a reservation for Jan 22 in anticipation of that being the first weekend of MSEP. 😆

Interestingly enough when did the Key's to the Kingdom tour in Feb 2020 we saw one of the MSEP floats in being worked on. When asked the Plaid gave some hint that it might be coming back, but I didn't know if it was just a Bus CM type of info or not. I am hopeful it was factual and maybe, just maybe, they've updated the lighting systems on the floats.

I can't remember when it started, but I sure remember when it was ending (the first time). I remember wanting to buy one of the lightbulbs for $50., but that was a big spend at the time. I'm glad I didn't get one. I regret not buying a brick out front for $99. though. That would have been fun to look at when it's too crowded to do anything else.

I hope they have another special night launch like they did before. I took one of my daughters to it, dressed for the 80's and had a great time even though it rained. Peter Pan had like a 5 minute wait, so that was one of the few and far between times that we rode it. See you all there.

I hope all the other lights get as bright as that "To Honor America" LED sign. They could also update the lighting of the performers. It often seems like light only hits one side and the rest of them end up being shadows.

Wow, I'm a little surprised they're not dropping MSEP in late January to help prop up historically low attendance in the winter months.

Are we back to Fantasmic and MSEP being summer-ish-only things? Oh, what a throwback!

Did they generally run both every night, or alternate? What about the fireworks as well? Seems like a lot of nighttime entertainment which is awesome, but not sure how frequent each will be.

Yes, this is what August 15, 2019 looked like in terms of night time entertainment scheduling:

Main Street Electrical Parade » Old-School Nighttime Parade with a bazillion lights
Shows at 8:45pm and 10:45pm

Fantasmic!
» Nighttime Stage/Fireworks Show
Shows at 9:00pm and 10:30pm

Disneyland Forever
» Spectacular Fireworks Show
One showing at 9:30pm

I remember picking either MSEP or Fantasmic at their respective start times, then holding in the same position for fireworks at 9:30pm, then hustling to the 2nd showing of either MSEP or Fantasmic (that was hectic).

I like to get a spot for Fireworks a couple hours in advance and eating dinner there. I'd stand up to see the MSEP floats when it passed by. Then I'd do the rush to Fantasmic.

For me, MSEP was rarely something I bothered saving a spot for. If I happened to get into the park at an odd hour such as if I had dinner plans outside the park, it was easy to rush to a decent spot for MSEP even if it had already started. Most guests upon hearing the music go to where the parade IS, not where the parade WILL BE.

In the old days, I would sometimes do Fantasmic from right in front of pirates, do a mad dash to main street for fireworks and then a mad dash to World of Color. The most difficult thing other than the mad dash to main street was timing the World of Color Fastpass. Too early and you'd get first show (CMs sometimes would be willing to swap a 2nd show FP with your first show one). Too late and the Fastpasses would be gone.

Side question: do we think the announcement of MSEP coming back means that there’s no hope for Paint the Night?

After it's last run in California Adventure, some of the pieces such as the jellyfish that go with the Ariel float were sent to Hong Kong to beef up their version of Paint the Night. Rumor has it that some of the floats were sent over to Hong Kong as well but that can't be confirmed as the parade isn't currently running in Hong Kong. It's possible to send these things back to California but I suspect that due there may not be enough pieces left to simultaneously run two versions of the parade in different parks.
