DVC Chit Chat Thread

Just be sure to begin every post with a "From my perspective as a DVC owner . . ." and then proceed to talk about anything you want. 🤣

I'm really just kidding. I think the moderators do a great job, and I can only imagine how hard it is to police these boards. Hopefully, as long as we keep things mildly DVC related, this thread will be fine.

Ok, on my mind re: DVC and resorts and credit card benefits: every VDH and Aulani owner should consider the Disney Inspire Visa.

Why these two locations specifically? Because both have a Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) that can be charged to your room, and it will count toward the Inspire’s annual $200 reward for spending toward $2000 on resorts in one year. You’ll also get 3% back with the card on the same purchases. Dues spending does not count toward this, nor do purchases of points or payments of DVC loans.

At each meal and store, get any applicable DVC discounts and charge the cost to your room too. Once you add on TOT, you’re going to be pretty close. If you do more than one trip within one year, you’ll almost certainly hit it. And you don’t have to play the Disney gift card game, except for spending above and beyond that amount (if you want).

Awesome there is some "perk" for TOT fees! I had just asked that question earlier today in the Inspire thread- https://www.disboards.com/threads/new-disney-visa-inspire-card.3978220/page-54#post-66598302
Thanks for that info!

Yes! I've always been one to carefully track our spending on trips, so I always told DH not to charge to the room because it's to easy to forget your budget. And then the Inspire card happened. I'll be charging everything to the room (at least until we hit the kickback). 🎉

okay, DVC owners let's chat! You regularly go on Disney property so you've probably bought a Disney coffee mug, shirt, etc. Now that you've been several times to Disney, do you even buy merchandise souvenirs anymore?
Yup, and I have a separate line item on our travel budget for it too.
We have pins, mugs, misc kitchen items, more clothing than we need, art, so much merch! And now that we're DVC owners, there's a even more options to collect. 🛍️

I do. Although I am guilty of wanting something or my son and saying we will come back and buy it right before we leave, and then we end up not going back.

SOOOO easy to spend money when you just tap your band.

I do, but I have to really want it and know how I'm going to use it. I saw so many videos of the gift shop at Wilderness Lodge and vloggers going on about how great of a gift shop it was. I was sure that I'd want to get a souvenior, but nope. I have no use for anything there. I have way too many Tshirts in general and I wasn't in love with any of the coffee mugs. I did look to see if they had a Pandora Wilderness Lodge charm and they didn't. I just bought food from the shop.

Many times, I'll see a cute handbag or Loungefly backpack and I don't buy them because I already have some and I don't use more than one at a time. I don't even travel with more than one. I do, however, look at as many gift shops as possible in hopes of finding something special.

They would sell so much more merch if they still offered the resort delivery for packages. I used that all the time!
This is one of those things that I really don't understand what they haven't brought that back. There have been so many times where I've told my kids, well, we can't get anything from a gift shop until we're ready to leave because we can't drag it around all day. And, of course, we never go back. My wallet is happier, but not Disney's.

I know I would buy a lot more.

So if we both do this I’m sure there are thousands that do it. Disney just leaving money on the table.

I guess the question is, what was the cost of providing that service relative to how much more money was spent. I would think it was easily profitable, but how profitable? Ugh. Makes me think of the SSR spa. I think it was was also probably profitable, just not profitable enough.

I hate thinking that Disney is making decisions about things that are really nice services that make the guest experience better and are profitable, but just not as profitable as other things, so they just don't bother. So shortsighted.

Yep, I carry a shoulder bag with my phone, spare battery, ID aand cards, I won't buy anything other than one T-Shirt to put in the bag and carry. I really miss resort delivery. I remember when it first started, and a castmeber would deliver it directly to our room, then they changed it to the resort gift shop.
