Forgive me if this has been asked and answered before. I've read about boys getting their hair cut in the Main street barbershop, but wondered if they do anything for girls? We'll be there in May with our 5 year old son and 6 year old daughter and I would love to take pictures of my son getting a haircut, but don't want my daughter to feel left out.

even if you don't get a haircut, you can still go in and get "styled"...in other words...pixie dusted! :wizard:

What kind of styling could we do? Hair color, glitter?
Not full color like you'd get at a beauty parlor -- it's a barber shop, remember, not a full-service salon. But you can get the fun colors and glitter and stuff like that.

:earsboy:

they will let your child pick out what color gel they want and sprinkle them with pixie dust...an awesome mixture of mickey shaped confetti, regular confetti, and glitter. for your daughter, if you don't want her hair cut, I've seen them french braid and put the pixie dust in the braid or just put the gel in the top of her hair. Either way, Fun, Fun, Fun!

I may even do it next time!

My DD had her first haircut at 2 years 3 months. They wonderful lady (sorry, can't remember her name right now) then put sweet little pink and purple spotted mickey shaped clips in her hair. Sooooo cute!

We were then all treated to Pixie Dust (including daddy) - I had my hair up in a twist and all the pixie dust stuck in my hair - I had lovely comments about my hair all day......

while my son was getting his hair cut, my dd got her ends trimmed and a lovely french braid (aka princess braid!) w/the accompanying pixie dust... the braid was so well done it stayed in for days, even w/the pool... made hair-doing sooo manageable... next trip it will be our first stop! LOL!

They do a great job with girls haircuts.

Maura did my DD's hair last April. It was her first pro haircut and she was very nervous, but Maura was great with her. They had a nice long conversation about brothers, starting school and babies (dolls that is!).

This is what Maura did.............

We had an hour wait, but that included us sneaking out to watch the afternoon parade.
Maura was great with our DD, the french braid lasted for a few days, and the experience was just great. She got a huge tip from me.

Oh, she also gave my daughter a huge roll of Mickey stickers!

Do they do anything really cool for the boys? I would love some details, also how much does this cost? The pics of your little girl are adorable. I have a 7 year old and a 13 year old, both boys. I am sure my oldest would say no way, but the little guy just might get into something like this. If anyone has some boy pics to share that would be awesome.

How much do they charge to do a girl's hair? Do you need an appointment or do you just walk in?

The pictures of your daughter are great. I think that's what we'll try to do too. I wasn't planning on having her hair cut, so the braid and pixie dust is perfect! My son usually get s buzz cut, so we'll do that with him and maybe some color, etc. I can't wait to take pictures and then put them in my scrapbook! Thanks for all the great ideas!

I was wondering the same thing...how much does it cost and do you need an appointment? Thanks!

For just hair gel coloring it was $5 for my kids last Sept, but they did "do" their hair too. I'm not sure how much it is for a style and gel coloring like a french braid. The price for the cuts went up a little bit, I think like $14-$15 now but the color gel is included. My dd Julia had her first real hair cut there 2 years ago when she was 2 1/2. And then last Sept they both got it colored and styled. Even my hubby got his hair cut the same time and they did a gel glitter colored mickey mouse in back of his head. Gonna share some pics, hope no one minds... the barbershop is fun for boys and girls of all ages!!!

Here is Julia at her first hair cut (before & after):

My daughters, my nephews and my little sister were all gelled:

ALL those pictures were awesome. The kids look so happy. I NEVER knew girls could get their hair done as well. What a neat surprise for our DD who will be 10 on next trip, and has long, beautiful hair. She'd LOVE the french braid with all the "extras".....thanks for posting all the pics!!

I believe the haircut was $14. Like I said in my other post I gave Maura a really big tip on top of that. I believe I tipped her another $8, I was so happy with the service. No appointments, walk in only. It gets very busy in there and you have to ask around who is next so that you can keep it straight. This was our second attempt at a haircut there. The first time the wait was two hours long! First thing in the morning or parade times seem to be best.

She did cut my daughters hair, then french braided it, added pink gel and pixie dust. They don't wash hair, but use a spray bottle to wet the hair.
My DD was afraid the pixie dust was going to make her fly away. She was quite relieved when she did not.

Others we saw getting their hair done were all boys and they did a great job with them as well.

I love the pic with all the kids and their colored hair! And my DS says your hubby's Mickey is cool!

Okay, my DD9 is chomping at the bit for this one! Any idea if they take appointments, anyone? :)

They didn't take appts when we went in Dec 2003. My youngest got her first haircut there- even though she was almost 3yrs old. LOL She didn't have enough hair for braids- so I just put it in ponytails (cause I knew how to manage the little bit of hair she had for ponytails) after the cut and then Maura (she was awesome!) did the whole 1st haircut routine- picture, certificate with lock of hair, and ofcourse mickey glitter/confetti in her hair. She loved it! I can't remember how much it cost- I just know we paid her $25.

Unfortunately I neglected to take pictures with my digi camera and used my regular camera with film I'd bought there and that entire 3 roll box of film didn't come out at all. Something was wrong with the film. :( So I don't have the neat pictures of that momentous occasion. :(
