Mailman ?

Our maillady parks near my house and walks her route. She does not walk on the sidewalk, she cuts across everyone's lawn, so she is passing each mailbox (on our houses) so she can clearly see if there is outgoing mail.

I'm feeling very spoiled & special in my little podunk town! I always leave mail in the box at the end of my driveway with the flag up and they always stop and pick up the mail. If there's a package that they think might be too big they'll drive up to the door and deliver it.

I'm feeling the love for my mail deliverers!!

This is us. We aren't even podunk. lol. OUr mail box is at the end of the driveway, we just raise the flag. OUr mail person, (sometimes male, sometimes female) always picks up and will come up to the house and ring the doorbell if a package is too big for the mail box. I am just as shocked that there are people that have never put mail into the box to be picked up. Just goes to show how different other areas of the country are.

What if I had something important like a CC or mortgage payment in the outgoing mail? So just because I didn't have any incoming mail you weren't even going to stop and see if I had anything outgoing? :confused3

:

Wow you are never supposed to put things like that out in your mailbox anyway! That is a major way people have their identity stolen!

•Don’t leave mail in your box. Incoming or outgoing mail should never sit in your mailbox. For example, when you mail bills out, don’t place them in the mailbox as you leave for work in the morning. Instead, drop them at the Post Office. Also don’t leave mail sitting in your box after delivery.
•Use a locking mailbox when possible. If you must leave mail sitting in your box, consider investing in a locking mailbox. These boxes allow Postal carriers to place mail in the box, but only a person with a key can remove it.

Mail carriers get paid quite well and it is not a job that requires a college degree. In our area, postal workers get paid more than TEACHERS:scared1:

I don’t get the surly attitude that many postal workers have. Especially the desk workers in the post office. We have some very sweet people that work there (I truly love the one lady and take her goodies in), but there are some that are downright miserable:rolleyes1

All the while collecting a hefty pension and having great medical benefits. It would have not killed the OP’s postal worker to pick up the video. The USPS workers better ramp it up. They are under scrutiny and may be closed down all together in the future. That is so sad. But if I were a postal worker, I would do my very best at work and lose the Union Mentality of "It's not in MY job description":headache: Customer service goes a long way.

Here are the SALARIES of every postal worker in the USA:

Not too shabby. Remember, most did not attend college. This list puts things in perspective when I walk into the post office and get the nasty guy that always acts like he is doing me a favor by waiting on me. The one that sits on a stool and weighs my “extra postage needed” letters and small boxes and is so ignorant to everyone that walks into the building:sad2: All the while, making $61,000 with a full pension and an awesome health care package. Smile, buddy. You have a lot to be happy about.

Here in WI, we just put the outgoing mail inside the mailbox and put the red flag up that is attached to the mailbox. If the flag is up, the mail carrier takes the outgoing mail. Quite the simple concept! Beats having to drive to the post office...

Wow, presumptious much? How do you know if a postal worker has a college degree, or not? I happen to know MANY who do! Many also have other forms of training-from the military or as first responders or such.

YOUR post was so full of ignorance-as bad as the unpleasant clerk you encounter

I love my customers and from what they tell me and my supervisors, they love me as well :lovestruc It is an honor to serve the public, every day. The US has the BEST Postal Service in the WORLD! :cool1:

NO TAX DOLLARS FUND THE USPS. BY LAW IT IS ENTIRELY FUNDED BY REVENUE FROM POSTAGE!!!

Arh. Not tax funded! That is the law!

"All of which are typical functions and powers of a private business. However, unlike other private businesses, the Postal Service is exempt from paying federal taxes. USPS can borrow money at discounted rates, and can condemn and acquire private property under governmental rights of eminent domain.

The USPS does get some taxpayer support. Around $96 million is budgeted annually by Congress for the "Postal Service Fund." These funds are used to compensate USPS for postage-free mailing for all legally blind persons and for mail-in election ballots sent from US citizens living overseas. A portion of the funds also pays USPS for providing address information to state and local child support enforcement agencies.

Under federal law, only the Postal Service can handle or charge postage for handling letters. Despite this virtual monopoly worth some $45 billion a year, the law does not require that the Postal Service make a profit -- only break even. Still, the US Postal Service has averaged a profit of over $1 billion per year in each of the last five years. Yet, Postal Service officials argue that they must continue to raise postage at regular intervals in order make up for the increased use of email."

That's why I asked. I expect them to stop for outgoing mail. . .and maybe I'm wrong. BUT I thought mail service was both ways.

Nope, your not wrong and I agree. As long as its clipped to or sticking out of the top the should be stopping to pick it up.

Still not taxpayer funded. The money for the Free Matter for the Blind is paying for a SERVICE. Same for the child support address stuff.

So again, the LAW is that the Postal Service is funded entirely by revenue.

And the site you quoted is outdated-unfortunately, the 1 bil a year profit is from years ago, sadly.

I would expect them to stop for outgoing mail, esp. since it was pretty clear that you had some to go out.

That being said with us, dh is the one that puts it out at the box and I refuse to do so and take it to the post office when I have to mail stuff.

Our box is at the street and our carrier delivers it by driving.

Wow, presumptious much? How do you know if a postal worker has a college degree, or not? I happen to know MANY who do!

I am not being presumptuous. I said that it is not a job that requires a college degree. How is that presumptuous? I am sure there are some letter carriers out there with degrees. But it is not required.

YOUR post was so full of ignorance…

How so? Because I stated a fact and provided a link with facts?

I love my customers and from what they tell me and my supervisors, they love me as well It is an honor to serve the public, every day.
This I believe. There are some wonderful postal workers out there:cloud9:

That is sad. I feel honest to goodness grief over any great USA masterpiece shutting its doors.

But, please admit, that while you are doing your job to the FULLEST of your ability (with a smile on your face), there are others that are not:confused3

Doesn't it anger you that they get paid the same great wage as you? With the same awesome benefits? And they will also collect an amazing pension, which is almost a thing of the past for most Americans.

Maybe the USPS shouldfire the slackers and the people that do nothing, yet still collect a paycheck. That would help with their profits.

Often mail carriers will intentionally have light days and only deliver first class mail because they want to end their day early or finish without doing OT. My dad was a mailman, supervisor, and Postmaster for 30+ years and this tended to be an issue for certain carriers on Saturdays especially. :/

That explains why our mail comes 5 hours earlier on Saturday than every other day of the week. I thought maybe she just liked to mix it up on the weekend, LOL. ;)

As to the OP ~ around here your mail would have been picked up, and if I were you, I'd be miffed, too.

I have always put mail in our mailbox at the end of the driveway, and it's always been picked up. When I lived in an apartment, a long time ago, I would bring mail to the post office to be mailed.

This was part of your post. You have no idea if 'most' postal workers have college degrees or not.

In our small town, most of our postal workers did NOT go to college. Yet MOST of our postal workers make more money than teachers.

Again, you do not need a college degree. I am sure we can all say we know a letter carrier with a degree. But, from what I know and see, most don't have them.

I do have a question for you:

Are letter carriers allowed to smoke in the postal jeep? Tired of my mail stinking like smoke:guilty:

The truth is, the vast majority of people I work with, work very hard, and try to serve their customers well every day. We all want the Postal Service to survive. My customers depend on us.

As with any business where humans work, there is the occasional bad apple. I focus on doing my job well. I'm also a customer, and my own letter carriers are all wonderful, as are the clerks at the PO (I don't live where I work).

For sake of accuracy, I do need to point out that all USPS employees hired since the mid-1980's are covered under the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS), which is a Defined Contribution Plan. This is not a pension. If they were hired before then, then they are Civil Service and have a pension (but cannot collect SS).

Wow, our mail is never picked up at all. We have to take it to the post office. I didn't even realize that mail carriers still picked up.

I leave all of my prepaid outgoing packages on my porch for my mailman also. Trying to park at my post office is a nightmare.

I pay all my bills online and the only thing that goes in my mailbox as outgoing mail are the cards and letters that I send to my college kids. No identity stealing there.
