How Many Of You Have Sent Down A Box Of Groceries In The Wilderness Lodge? Or Would It Be Cheaper Or Easier To Order Groceries From Somewhere? Would The Stuff Go To The Luggage Holding Area. If You Ordered From Somewhere, Where Do They Bring Your Items? Thanks Lori

A lot of people use wegoshop.com and report very good service at low cost. They will shop for you at a store of your choosing, and deliver the food to your resort, for a modest fee. I believe most of the resorts are set up to receive both regular and refrigerated groceries. Using a local service like wegoshop might be less expensive and more reliable than trying to ship groceries to WDW.

I have used netgrocers.com to order my non-perishables. I find that the shipping fee is offset by the lack of the10% Florida sales tax. When I check into the resort, I am told I have a package waiting. I think it is stored inside as they go to the back room to get it. They also offer to have it delivered to my room with my luggage. I am pretty sure at that point it is stored with the luggage.

Florida sales tax is 6%, but groceries are not taxed at all. Neither are prescription medicines or most professional services. If you buy non-grocery items at a super market, those would be taxed, but not food.

Some counties have received legislative authority for higher rates of sales tax - I believe my home county is the highest with a 1% additional charge for a total of 7% - but those taxes would only apply to things taxed by the state...never groceries.

The tax that people encounter most at WDW would be a county resort tax. I'm not sure what it is, but the number 11.5% sticks in my head for some reason. Resort taxes would usually only apply to hotel rooms and some convention services though.

I have shipped groceries (mostly baby items) from home and the shipping wasn't worth it, especially since we still had to make a grocery stop for perishables. I think I spent almost $17 to ship that box. I will use Wegoshop next time as the fee they charge is less than what I spent on shipping last time and they can buy everything for me, which is worth a lot since my vacation time is worth something too!
