Has anyone been successful at mailing a package to yourself at OKW or one of the the other DVC resorts? My intention is to send some stuff ahead of time and hope that the package gets there at the time of my arrival (so I can pick it up at check-in). If you have done this, is there any fee associated with it?

Many thanks in advance.

There are fees at the "convention resorts" (BLT, BWV, BCV) because the shipping/receiving is an outside vendor. I don't think OKW has started charging anything. Be sure to display your name, arrival date, and reservation number o the outside of the package.

$3 to receive a package at BLT and the concierge made me jump through hoops to get it. It was VERY frustrating. Not what I expect from a high end resort.

We had a box shipped to BC and were not charged in May 2008. We LOVED shipping the box with toilletries, snacks, dress up clothes, extra diapers, batteries, ponchos etc. We arent doing it this trip..I am trying to pack very light. We'll see how that goes.

at BLT/CR they are using this outside vendor to handle it. My gut feeling is its some politic about them not getting paid to deal with it so they won't. I'm still irritated over the grief this concierge chick gave me over a stupid greeting card.

The amount of the fee is based upon the size of the box and it's weight. Some DISers have reported paying up to $10 to receive a case of water.

at a $500/night resort. that's ridiculous.

The package receiving/shipping is contracted out at the convention center resorts, just as it is at most convention hosting venues everywhere.

no way is this justifiable. make the convention goers pay the $3. I'd have been better off shipping it to another resort and going to find it.

What do you mean by "the concierge made me jump through hoops to get it."? I need to send some food items down for our January trip and I'm debating whether to ship it or pay the airlines and bring another suitcase.

Except that without your name, reservation number and arrival date it likely would have been refused or simply "lost."

With your name and reservation, it would have been re-routed to your resort and the fee charged anyway. If it happened a lot, perhaps Disney would simply a) charge for all packages at all resorts -or- not accept packages at all, except at convention resorts.

They do hold all the cards, and we all agreed to that when we purchased.

well it took an extra day then it should have so I inquired with the desk and they were visibly irritated with the question. They asked me if i had received a phone call, i hadn't but who knows, I'm not on vacation to mess with voicemail, which is why I went to the desk. She wouldn't go check but I insisted and she did a cursory check and sent me on my way. We got back to the room a little later that afternoon and ALL THE WAY up to our 10th room floor and low and behold a voicemail. Of course it came, no big, we'll go down later. We went down at 4:50 and asked the concierge about the mail and she said did you receive a call and stared through me. yes. she checked on it. oh they close at 5, its like 5:01.

well hot damn why dont you trot over there and get it. grrr.

so i got to come back in the AM to get it. a friggin greeting card. and then to add insult to injury it's $3.

I'm not some la-te-da here but I found the whole thing very frustrating.

ah no, no more than voting for some schmuck in the senate means I'm stuck with his lousy decisions. I will let them know over and over how stupid I think this is.

It is a contract between Disney Resorts and the shipping/receiving service. There really is nothing you can do about it, except complain. It will not change, the delivery services like UPS, FedEx, etc. deliver directly to the the shipping company, and that company charges a fee.

The concierge desk has no control over that, or their operating hours, what so ever.

Just like when laws pass the senate...we are "stuck" with them.

Thanks for the feedback. Just one question, did you get notification from the shipping company that it was delivered prior to your arrival? I'm just wondering if I will have problems since I'm planning on sending the package about a week ahead of time.

no, no one from fedex phoned me, nor did i have a tracking number, but I wasn't shipping it to myself.

my friend wanted to send me a gift card, she goofed around till the last minute and didnt send it to my house, so instead she sent it to diz against my strongest urges not to do it at all. The whole thing was annoying.

I suspect sending your own box you can check the tracker yourself on your laptop or via phone so it will be easier, and im sure in that case this 3rd party group will be happy to hold the package a few extra days as part of their service. For me, however, it was not a good solution especially considering the value of the service.

I've sent myself a package to arrive day before our checkin countless times. I have been charged at BWV and BCV.......no charges at OKW, SSR, AKV, VWL or VB. The only time I've EVER had an issue (and it really wasn't an issue.....at least I didn't think so) was at BWV......we arrived on New Year's Day......because of the holiday I had to ship a few days earlier than I would have liked since I couldn't get a guarantee from FedEx Ground Service that they would be delivering on Dec. 31st......the package arrived on Dec. 29th. Since BWV is a convention hotel, ALL packages go thru the convention center package room. When we arrived on NYD the front desk at BW had no idea if I had a package since the package room had not notified the desk. I knew it was there since I printed out the delivery confirmation before I left home. The problem was......since the convention center was closed on NYD....no conventions on holidays...there was no staff in the package room.
The front desk simply called security, who in turn, contacted the on-call person for the package room. My package was delivered to our room a few hours later. I always print out the delivery confirmation before I leave home in the event I ever do have a problem with non-receipt. However, I have never had anyone be anything other than pleasant and polite when I ask about receipt of the package at the desk and also when it's delivered to our room by Bell Services........same goes for Garden Grocer delivery polite and pleasant...... we were told by GG that they do not allow the GG delivery people to deliver directly to the room......that they would deliver to Bell Services and it would then be delivered to our room by Bell Services.

We always send a box down and have water delievered. When we stayed at Beach Club last April, they tried to charge us a fee but my husband stated we are not part of a convention and the front desk agreed that the fee is only if your part of a convention. We have never had a problem at SSR getting our boxes!!

Well, I was the one that started the thread. Thanks for all the comments. I just got back from my vacation and had a great time.

I fedexed a package to myself at OKW and everything worked without a hitch. I would do it again.

I'm very glad to hear this, we are 22 days out and with all this nonsense with the Airlines going on, I had decided over the weekend to send a box to myself with some wine and other things I would normally put in my suitcase. I didn't have a problem when I did this three years ago at AKL, but I was getting concerned as I read some of the posts from the other resorts. Love SSR, and this time we get to stay in the Treehouses!
