We're going to WDW in July and I'm seriously considering mailing a box to POFQ so we don't have to lug it with us on the trip over.

I'm thinking of just breakfast type foods. What types of things would you suggest that would make it in the mail and last the 8 days we will be there? Also, where is the least expensive place to buy milk at POFQ?

Any other suggestions as to how we can accomplish cheap in-room breakfasts are welcome.

Oh, and lastly, if you've done this, how much did you pack in the box you mailed and how much did it cost? Is it REALLY a cost savings to do this?

You could just have GardenGrocer bring you everything you need when you arrive. They do all grociery items so you wouldn't be stuck with just breakfast, if you didn't want, and you could have milk too. They require a $50 minimum, for I think $5 delivery fee. In the long run well worth it over shipping. We used them in December and they were great, they even make sure cold items get into a fridge if they're dropping it with bell service.

I would think that shipping from Hawaii is going to be a big chunk of change. I haven't personally shipped items, but have taken breakfast type items with us. We have an Coleman electric cooler and I packed it with cereal, fruit snacks, bowls, cereal bars, and checked it as luggage. Kept it in the original box and it held up fine. Then on the way home, it was packed with dirty laundry.
Now we forego Magical Express for a towncar service with a grocery stop. Pick up bagels, penaut butter, cereal, milk, etc.
You can purchase mile in the gift shop at POR. They also have it in the food court, but it is cheaper in the gift shop.

Is there a gift shop at POFQ that sells milk as well?

I thought of the grocer option but we are on the dining plan so that's why we are only doing breakfast in our room. (Plus we want to be able to eat while getting ready to hit the parks before they open!)

Hmmm...on second thought, I'll give it a second thought! :scratchin

I'd pack food in a small suitcase. that is what we jsut did for our last trip just a week ago. It was great.. we checked it on and everything... no more damage than a mailed box would incur.

FREE.. no shipping, etc. and then we used the suitcase to bring back souvenirs. I'd do that if I were you.

you can usually check 2 bags per person and carry on 2. you could even carry your food on with you if you have to check too many items.

Hi Amy,

For our trips to WDW we usually get a real sturdy box and pack that with the snack things that the kids want. We check the box in as luggage and there is no charge. Shipping from Hawaii isn't cheap.

After the trip we usually have no need for the box and its thrown away.

Have a great trip...we are heading to WDW in July also :sunny:

After a few days of mulling over this...I think our best option would be to check in a smallish box. That will definitely save us some cash.

Thanks for all your responses!

I know you are bringing your own breakfast, but POFQ has excellent choices in their food court. The beignets (square donuts topped with powdered sugar) are excellent (authentic new orleans style and taste) and a Disney bargain at only $1.99. Another must try - Mickey shaped belgian waffle with warm strawberries on top. We ate there each morning around 8am and got our food very quickly and never a wait at the cashier. We were done eating and at our bus stop by 8:30 and got to the park before opening time.
For your cereal, they do sell milk in the gift shop, not sure how much it is.

Yes, I had heard about the beignets and plan to get some one morning! Thanks!

USPS has a flat rate box. For $8.10 you can ship to / from any state. The box is free, you just pay the $8.10 for the shipping.

We got a grocery delivery from Gooding's (www.goodings.com). $50 minimum, $10 flat rate fee. It's gotta be cheaper and less bother to get a grocery delivery than to ship a bunch of stuff. Plus, with a delivery you can get perishables. Gooding's delivers to your resort's Bell Services. If you're not in, Bell Services leaves a message, holds onto your order for you, and even keeps your cold stuff cold for you (Gooding's separately bags and labels the cold stuff). I love the fact that you don't have to sit around and wait for the delivery.

We aren't huge breakfast eaters and didn't want to use up time walking to the food court every morning, then spending a lot of money on a meal we don't really relish, anyway.

Here's the breakfast-type stuff that we got from our Gooding's delivery:
fresh bagels (in many varieties), deli sliced American cheese, cream cheese, cold cereal, milk, bananas, grapes, oranges, yogurt, instant oatmeal (use the coffee maker to heat the water!), bottled water, OJ, stuff like that. We got some other stuff, too, like some junk food and soda, but our main reason for the grocery delivery was for our breakfast needs.

Disney is expensive, but I cannot imagine it being more expensive than buying food in Hawaii and shipping it to Florida! :-)
