Mail and newspaper when gone

I wasn't really sure where to post this. I'm just curious what do you all do with your mail and newspapers when you are gone? I'm trying to decide whether I should have the post office hold our mail and have the newspaper stop for a week or if we should just have the neighbors or someone in the family pick up the mail and newspapers from our home. What do you usually do?

I generally stop the newspaper delivery and I have a neighbor feed our cats and grab our mail while we're gone :)

We usually stop the newspaper for the week and let the post office hold our mail and deliver it when we return. We very rarely get anything that can't wait a week to be taken care of. :)

We have the post office hold our mail and deliver it all the day we get back. We also stop our paper and it gets "donated" that week to a group/organization that can use it.

We usually stop the mail and pick it up when back. We stop the paper and they donate it somewhere.

I like the idea of donating the newspapers. I'm going to call and stop the newspaper because I know we won't read them when we get back.

I stop the paper and donate it to local schools - our newspaper has that program. I let my mailman know that I'll be gone - he delivers my mail through the door slot, but holds packages until I get home.

We usually hold the newspaper and the mail. Although, I have read that it is safer to have your neighbor empty your mailbox rather than alerting a bunch of strangers at the Post Office and newspaper that your house will be vacant for X amount of days.

Our neighbor has a key to our house (her husband is a retired Justice of the Peace), she gets our mail and papers in and out them on our kitchen counter.

I don't get the newspaper but I just go online to usps.com and put a hold on my mail. I tell them what day I would like it all delivered.

DITTO

I usually stop the newspaper and have it restart right before we come home. I sometimes stop the mail, but since I have a cat sitter I just have her bring it in and put it in my big plastic mail bin. You can borrow one from your post office.

One of the only things that makes coming home even slightly bearable is going through the weeks mail. It is the first thing I do when we get home. I would hate having it held at the Post Office.

My in-laws stop by to take care of our cat everyday when we are on vacation, so they just take our mail in. When we used to get the paper, they would also take that in. I am one of the weirdos who doesn't like to miss anything, so I would read all the local news (and obituaries) when we returned.

We just usually have a friend get our mail and feed the bird while we are gone.

Well I called and stopped the paper and I had the option of the newspaper holding all our papers until we got back or donating them to the schools, so I donated them. I think it's a great idea.
