But I have enough magnet on the back to hold securely to the door?

i used the same type of magnet tape for some of the magnets i used on the wonder last year and they held on, so you should be fine. having said that, i switched to the disk type after a few of these and those worked very well. not the neodymium ones (though i have those as well), but the regular round magnets from michael's.

I've heard some mention the doors are thick with paint and I want to make sure the designs have enough on the back but I certainly don't want to add more than necessary. We plan to have the door full

yes, that's why i mentioned the wonder, because it's on that (older) ship where there are more layers of paint on the door. if you're concerned, add one of those disk magnets and you'll be fine.
