Magicians & Jugglers & a Clown Slide, OH MY! We're going to the BWI... A Nov 2010 PTR

So I am sitting here in my office and all I had today is a cup of tea and bagel and I check out this thread and all I see is FOOD!!! Shelly! I am now starving!

BTW, I think Shelly REALLY likes food, I mean, she has it broken down by so many categories, (has anyone notice that?)...she is probably going to make up some new ones we have never even thought of very soon. :rotfl2:

Ok, my thoughts on the "resort dining" category. Number one favorite - California Grill. Best view, best food on property for the price you pay. I really felt I got my value for my dollars at this place. Number two favorite - Kona Cafe - great big portions, tasty and authentic Hawaiian flavors here. Price is very reasonable and you will be full until dinner time. Always go here before MK or Epcot. Went here three times on the last trip and should have gone back more! Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory @ PORFQ - the fresh made to order Beignets Also, the cheesesteak and homemade potato chips - very good! This is a good place for a quick bite to eat.

WCC - Went here with our friends to lunch for the first time this past August. Very attentive and helpful waiter. We had a friend who has a shellfish allergy the chef came out and help her with a food selection. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Chef came out afterwords to make sure everything was OK. Definitely a good place for lunch in my book.

Pepper Market @ CSR - We all really like the different made-to-order food selections here. Large portions, so you can share one dish with two people. My boys really enjoyed eating here.

There are my thoughts...:cool1:

I know!!! Me too!!! Well, last night I finally sat down with Mike and the kids to go over what we had. gotta work on that today......
Yay for one month!!!!:dance3::cheer2::cheer2:
that makes me a month and one week..even though my ticker says 1 month and 6 days:confused3 not sure why.... I even went back and redid the ticker just to see the date and it still said the same thing? Not sure if they totally discount the actual travel date or what.... We have eaten at Ohana-great brkfst, 1900...food was not so good....and chef Mickeys...I am not big on brkfst either, but the kids loooved it!!!

A month in ticker time is 30 days. Since October is a 31 day month, the days get thrown off. At least...that's the best excuse I can think of.

I don't mind DTD. I just feel like I can shop at home. I don't even particularly like stopping in stores in the parks, except the Art of Disney store (I LOVE it!) and the World Showcase. Since a lot of the stores have the same things over and over again, I can mostly go into a store a single time and see if there's anything I would like to buy.
I would try T-Rex while I'm at my parents this winter, but I don't know if Gideon could handle the loud noises. He'll probably enjoy it in a few years though.
I offered to take my brother, when the restaurant opened, and he wasn't at all interested. He was probably about 11 at the time, but he's kind of a weird young man.

We've done Ohana (breakfast) and Park Fare (dinner). Ohana was ok. I think it would have been more fun with small children. It was towards the end of our trip too, which meant we were fairly stuffed.

I LOVED Park Fare. Those stepsisters are a hoot. One of them asked me where I met my prince, so I told her about how Logan and I met while watching for a tornado. She yelled "IN A TORNADO!" The entire room stopped and looked. She then indicated that she won't be trying my method of finding princes. The food was pretty bad though.

We probably won't do another character meal until Gideon is old enough to enjoy it. I'm not particularly good at interacting with characters, especially the fuzzy ones. Logan would rather not meet characters at all. It was a struggle to get him to take pictures with any of them, except, of course, the Army Man at DHS last summer. For that one he got excited and posed with a smile on his face and everything.

Well, after reading about all that yummy food and seeing the pics- it makes my Greek yogurt with Fiber one cereal and 6 almonds that I sit here eating seem..........
bland.

And boring.

And dumb.:sad2:

And now, I'm hungry.:rolleyes1

And it's all your fault if I have to go consume more calories than I did yesterday.

 Your posts always crack me up!! I'm sorry your breakfast was boring and dumb!! :rotfl: I hope you didn't consume too many calories today!

Especially seeing pics of Kona.:love::love::love:
Love that place. It's the best ever. You should try lunch some trip, if you can tear yourself away from the tonga Toast. ::yes:: (The macadamia nut pancakes are my favorite... YUM!)
It is my favorite place to go. I tell Mark all of the time that I want to go - just to get the wings and Fish tacos. I know you wouldn't eat those, but man are they good.
After you've finished eating and before you leave the Poly after walking around- go get a Dole whip.:woohoo:

Park Fare-- I've of course never been. But it looks like fun and your oldest dancing with the ugly step sister is classic. He's so funny!:upsidedow

Chef Mickey's-- never been.:upsidedow It looks liek a great time though. I hope you guys don't miss it this trip.

Whispering Canyon-- we won't ever go back, but I'm glad we tried it.

'Ohana- dinner is very good there, but no characters. But it's fun and I like the food pretty well. It seems to be a hard ADR to get.

Well, I hope your fundraiser was successful!!:goodvibes

Great update!!!!!!!!!!

Kona is pretty great! :lovestruc We should try lunch or dinner sometime, but I don't think I will be able to tear the boys away from the breakfast there!!

Glad you enjoyed the update! :goodvibes

YAY 1 Month left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shelly - He is getting so big..... :( i hate that they grow up so fast.... Doe's he still have the crush on Minnie???? i remember that..... Can't wait to hear all about your trip when you get back.... I just started really talking about my friends about what ressie they want me to make and stuff.....

So if you were going with a friend to WDW and it was their first time there what would be your one of your "HAVE TO" ADR's?????

Yes, he actually still has that crush on Minnie! :lovestruc He still loves her very much.

Hmm. . . A "Have to" ADR. . . Probably would have to go with Chef Mickey's for dinner! It's so much fun, the food is good, and all the main characters are there! :thumbsup2 As far as best food - Kona or Sci-Fi for me!

Well, I can't comment on any of the restaurants because I've never been to any of them. :rolleyes1 I really need to get out more!

So....I will comment on your pictures. And I have to say you take some great pictures! :thumbsup2 I agree with Jo - those food pictures, especially breakfast, have made me hungry! At least Jo was eating an actual breakfast. I was sitting here eating crackers. Let's see......crackers/Tonga Toast......I think I'll have the Tongas Toast! Of course, I've never had Tonga Toast because I've never been to Kona Cafe or anywhere else for that matter, but it sure looks good in those pics!

That is a great photo of your family at Kona Cafe. I also loved the one of your DS11 dancing with the stepsister! How cute is that? And I loved the looks on your boys' faces in the pic at Whispering Canyon. You can tell how much fun they were having there!

OK, that's it until the next installment of places I've never been to. :rotfl2:

You do need to get out more!

I'm glad you are enjoying the pictures. You know I LOVE to take lots of pics!

Yes, Tonga Toast is slightly better than crackers. :rotfl:

I get no help from DH & the kids!:upsidedow When I try it talk to them about the plans it just makes it more confusing. :rotfl: They just want me to plan everything!

One time I had a ticker from Mickey Path and it was always off by one day. I had to go in and change my vacation by one day to make the ticker right. :confused3

Happy One Month!!!:goodvibes:goodvibes
I'm so sorry I have been so absent from your PTR. I haven't been on the DIS as much lately with our January trip being cancelled.:sad1: Plus, there has been a ton going on here at home.
I will PM you later to update you on things!
Are the kids starting to get really excited about WDW? I bet they can't wait!

Hey Lauren! :goodvibes I have been thinking about you. Hope things are going well.

Yes, the kids are getting very excited. Especially since DS got his gift cards!! :cool1:

There is a lot going on, too much for such a short trip and I honestly do not know where my head was, since I should have planned from the start so DS and Ddil could see the fireworks at MK and the Castle Lights but it had totally skipped my mind since DH and I are doing the MVMCP which they did not want to spend the $ on. So here I am shifting everything around , not that I mind seeng Wishes as I have never seen them last time I saw fireworks at MK was '98, the MSEP will be emotional for me since it was at MK our first couple of trips to Disney.

I made a lunch ressie for T-Rex for our "new" DTD day which is actually the day I had orginally planned on going there before I shifted our last two days around a week or two ago

I just want to snag an early ressie for CP for our new MK day, but if I don't it is no biggie right now I have a 9:10am.

This trip planning is nuts!

I'm sure it will all work out! :goodvibes Try not to stress too much about it. I was totally stressing trying to fit everything in just right, but I think it will all be fine! :)

I know we had breakfast at Chef Mickeys and I seem to recall having dinner at another restaurant years ago , I remember having lamb with mint jelly on the side and I remember DH having a mini heart attack over the bill and grumbling about having to leave a $20 tip  but for the life of me I can not recall the name of the restaurant and since they changed from back in the late 80's and 90's I have no clue. We have not been back since, DH is not a fan of CR, too noisy , too busy etc etc, I would like to stay there one day

Have never stepped foot into GF, I always said I wouldn't until the day I can stay there, it is my dream resort, Main Building-MK view, of course I may just go there this year if the gingerbread house is up, I had made a ressie for GF Cafe but ended up cancelling it.

I have read about the tonga toast( it looks delish in your pics) at Kona's at the Poly and would love to go there someday but DH is not a fan of the Poly Resort either, we went to the Aloha Dinner Show one year and DH did not like the resort or the meal only thing he did like was the female dancers in the show:rotfl: I on the other hand liked the show and the more DH complained the more Mai Tai's I drank I was feeling no pain that night :lmao:

Have eaten at WCC and Artist point a few times due to the fact we stayed there twice but WCC also made DH's list of not his "favorites" :rotfl2: again too noisy, he hated the kids gallopping around the room, Artist Point he loved, I could take or leave either place to me they were just ok

Breakfast is my favorite meal and your pics sure made me hungry!

Hmm. . . Can't help you there, we never went to WDW until 2005 so I have no idea what restaurant was in the Contemporary in the 80's & 90's! Sounds intriguing though! :rotfl:

You should definitely visit the GF. It is very beautiful. :goodvibes We stopped in last year to see if the gingerbread house was done, but it was in process. It was really neat to watch them making it.

 Sorry to make you so hungry Sea!!

Don't worry, I still have many more food categories to come! :thumbsup2 That was only MK resort dining, there are still many many more resorts!

We have never been to California Grill. :confused3 Never really interested us. Maybe someday. Most people seem to love it!

Thanks for mentioning the food courts. I will have to have a category for those soon! ::yes:: :lmao:

Those step-sisters are hilarious at 1900 PF! :rotfl: It almost makes up for the bad food!

Great picture of Logan with the Army Man!

I would probably wait until the baby is old enough to enjoy the character meals too.

That ticker is looking mighty fine!!!!! Happy 1 month!!!!!!

And I have to agree with everyone else that I'm hungry now after seeing all those food pics! popcorn::

Thanks Kim! :goodvibes

Hopefully I will get another update up soon and you will all have more food to look at! :rotfl:

so next time I come on i have to make sure I eat first.... because when i finish i'll be hungry with all the food that is mentioned on here..... LOL....

Epcot area Resort Dining!

Places we have eaten:

Cape May Cafe
Big River Grille

We had breakfast at Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club in May 2008. The food was good. It is a buffet. There was lots to choose from, but it was nothing like Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey's. I hear lots of people say they love it and have had great service, so we must have just been unlucky. Our waitress was awful. Just no personality. Not very attentive. I remember sitting there needing a drink refill for most of the meal. We weren't very happy by the time we left there. I couldn't find any food pics from Cape May, but found a few of the characters in their beach attire!

And here we are after our breakfast dreaming of where we would stay someday – The Boardwalk! :lovestruc

100_3953.jpg

We have been to Big River Grille at the Boardwalk the last 2 trips. I was thinking about going and then JoBird told me it was good, so I had my doubts!! :rotfl: (We rarely agree on restaurants!) But we decided to try it anyway since it would give us a good excuse to visit the BW area! We had an excellent experience the first time and the second time didn't disappoint either. They are very accommodating to DS9's eating issues. They even once made him a grilled cheese with no cheese! Service is good, portions are big, and the food is great! :goodvibes

So where will we eat in the Epcot resort area this time? We have decided to give Cape May another chance, but for dinner this time. The Cape May dinner was something I had overlooked all this time because I know it is a lot of seafood and I don't eat seafood. But I happened to look at the menu a few months back and they really have a lot of other offerings besides the seafood. So I think (hope) we are going to enjoy it! :wizard: We thought about Captain's Grill at the Yacht Club, but decided on Cape May instead. We will also go to Big River Grille again. We've had 2 great experiences there and the food is very good! Plus it will be so convenient! We may also end up at Beaches & Cream sometime during the week. Not sure if it will be for a meal or just dessert!

Kona is pretty great! :lovestruc We should try lunch or dinner sometime, but I don't think I will be able to tear the boys away from the breakfast there!!
MK resorts:
There's no rule that says you can't have breakfast there one day, and lunch or dinner a different day!!
We enjoyed our lunch there in Dec. - the wings are worth going for alone!

We agree about 1900 Park Fare - dinner was "okay", but the characters were awesome!
Have also enjoyed Ohana for breakfast, never dinner (yet!). Enjoyed the Luau (2TS).
Only had CS at Wilderness.

Epcot resorts:
Enjoyed our Cape May breakfast (we had a better server!) but had to wait a long time for our "last" character to come by.
Captain's Grill was pretty good for dinner. We enjoyed most of what we ordered. It's worth giving a try, but the word is that Yachtsman Steakhouse can't be beat. It's 2TS though.

We have visited the Boardwalk twice now once the year after it opened and then again last year, both times eating at ESPN, which by the way I have to say has good food and reasonable prices. If DH and DS's are into sports they will enjoy ESPN, lots of tv's and sports memorabilia I like ESPN and I am not into sports in any way, shape or form. :rotfl:

DS and Ddil at ESPN 2009(Ddil works for ESPN, showing off her card lol)

[/IMG]

I never noticed the Big River Grill and the first time we visited BW was in the evening and we explored the entire area, maybe it is someplace fairly new to BW? :confused3

We have also dined at Beaches and Cream, Captains Grill numerous times during our stay at YC both breakfast and dinner and breakfast at Cape May.
We loved the Captains Grill in my opinion it is a notch above Cape May which did not impress us either, we went there for Breakfast on DS's :littleangel: Birthday and he never so much as rec'd a cupcake, he was glad though that they did not sing Happy Birthday since he was 15, the thing was I mentioned to the server about it being his birthday.
I have toyed with the idea of doing Cape May for dinner sometime since I love seafood but DH not so much so we haven't gone yet.

I still have resort envy especially now that we are talking about all the fantastic places to eat

Yeah, we could go to Kona for breakfast one day and dinner another, I'm just not much for visiting the same resort twice on the same trip. :confused3 I was going to book Kona for dinner once but then they took the filet off the menu. I would like to do the Luau sometime too!

I remember your review of Captain's Grill. It did look good!

BRG is over on the BWV side. I don't know how long it's been there.

Nice picture! ESPN sounds fun!

We went to Cape May on our 10th anniversary for breakfast. DS told the waitress it was our anniversary and she less than enthusiastically said - oh that's nice.

We'll see how dinner goes there! :wizard:

We've never eaten in the Epcot resort area other than Beaches & Cream for dessert. Epcot already has so many good food choices, and DHS is a bit far away. I'm sure we'll get around to it eventually...
I'm glad the Big River Grille was so accommodating. That's always nice to know.

:rotfl: I still love that pic of the grilled cheese hold the cheese. From one mom of a picky eater to another, I completely get it!

Okay, Shelly - - - - You TOTALLY sold me on Kona Cafe! Those pics did it. My favorite meal is breakfast, but DH doesn't like to go out to breakfast all that much. I just make a reservation online for breakfast on our anniversary (11/11). My DS10 loves blueberry pancakes, so I'm sure that's what he will get. DD12 - - - not so sure what she will pick, but I know she likes french toast, so one of us will probably try the Tonga Toast! :worship:

Breakfast at Kona Cafe and dinner at California Grill. I'm so excited for our anniversary!!! :lovestruc :woohoo:

Afternoon PTR friends

I had to sub today and just got home a little bit ago. And now we are off for a long weekend! :goodvibes And it is supposed to be sunny and warm out all weekend!! :cool1:

We'd like yo try B&C. We'll have to see how the week goes and where we end up!

I think you mean Kona for breakfast!! :goodvibes That's where the Tonga Toast is! We've never been to Boma, but I hear good things about it.
