Got our MagicBands today. I can't believe the elaborate packaging they have done just to deliver the two bands, which came by UPS. The box is very impressive and even has our names printed below each band. Surely they are not going to do this for everyone from now on. I would imagine that would really cost a lot.

Disney has reported that the Magic Bands have increased their sales by 25% so they can afford it.

There is a lot of waste. I already have Magic Bands. Today I received a UPS envelope, next day air, telling me I have been picked to try Magic Bands. The phone number associated it took me to DVC. I called, just to be sure what I already have will be valid. I was told it will be. From what I read here, I am not the only one to get the invitation after signing up.

When I checked in with my Magic Band last week, the CM told me that they do hope guests will keep them and reuse them on future visits. Realistically, I don't expect many people would do that.

The Magic Bands only have an average 2 year battery life so reusing them doesn't seem like a viable option.

Yep, I've wondered how reliable the battery life will be on the Magic Bands. I imagine I'll try to reuse mine for a trip or two. However, I'd hate to be in line to use a FastPass for my favorite attraction and THEN find out the battery has died.

The short range RFID chip would receive power the when MagicBand is placed up to the scanner. The RFID cards don't have a battery and they work with FP+. The MagicBand would probably work forever if you only use the scanners that scan the band when "touched".

True but without a battery, Disney has a harder time "tracking" you and the non-touch applications stop working. My guess is that they will want to replace your band if it doesn't pass the test at check in.

The band doesn't store any data, only an ID number. All of your info is stored in Disney's computer systems.

Any request for data won't be impacted if the battery goes dead. This includes anything that requires that you touch your band to a reader like park admission, room access and buying something.

The battery is used for non-touch applications like high score displays on attractions or guest location applications.

The Touch to Enter function of a MagicBand does not rely on battery power. Same applies to RFID MYW tickets & RFID AP Cards which don't have a battery.

Currently, they are available for resort reservations with arrival dates in to November.

A separate MagicBand will be provided to AP Holders at some point in the future.

We have a split stay coming up with 3 nights at VGF 10/23 - 10/26...guessing I won't need to do anything regarding Magic Bands for this portion, right? Then we come off of DCL cruise on 11/2 - 11/7 at SSR, do I have to do anything? I should also state we are not AP folks, we have 10 day non expiring passes still. I am confused as well on this whole Magic Band change, hope someone can set me straight...in a kind way of course!

Have you checked MDE today? It was reported that VGF was added to testing in October.

I got my magic bands today! I am trying to book fast passes and it says the kids in our party aren't eligible because they aren't participating in My Disney Experience. How do I fix this?
