Magicbands & Fingerprints?

We've had passes forever and I have problems with my fingerprint forever. They tell me that it just doesn't work on some people and I am one of them. I just show my ID. And yes I have tried every method, press lightly, etc. still does not work. It's to the point that CMS know me and laugh. It's especially bad on the passholder line cause I know I annoy people. I just stand to the side and get a CM while my family is laughing cause they are already in the park.

My wife has thin and shallow fingerprints. Biometrics don’t always work for her. What wil happen at the turnstiles if her fingerprints don’t work?
That is me year after year. Now it is easier they take my picture and then if I have a problem they call a cm with a pad and they tap my mb and my pic pops up.

This past trip, we had one frantic morning that in the ten minutes before leaving the resort to walk over to the international gateway, my baby had the most epic diaper blowout, and in all the chaos of trying to clean her up and get her into some fresh clothes, I sliced my finger open (bad enough to bleed all over the clean diaper I was trying to put on her). I finally got us both cleaned up and DH found me a bandaid. Then we get to the entrance and as I'm scanning my magic band I realized the bandaid was on the finger I had been scanning all week.

They had a CM come over, ask me to verify my name, took my picture, did some sort of magic with his tablet, then had me scan a different finger to use for the remainder of the trip. Pretty quick and painless (besides the sliced open finger part)

My mother in law had the worst problems scanning her finger, we were told to make sure your fingers are clean of sunscreen because that can throw off the scanner

This trip we had a ton of issues with my sons finger. Never in the past but this trip it was every single morning.

From my job as a nurse - hand sanitizer can also mess up finger scans. And as mentioned above sunscreen. I hate the scanning process because my fingers sometimes are wonky but understand why it is done.

So can simple water. When it's raining I have problems and have found I need to dry my hand off on something first.

My mom is 75yo lady who worked as a nurse for 40 of those years, so her fingerprints are indeed a little damaged, but she can enter all parks without a hitch. All parks expect for Animal Kingdom! For some reason she always get stuck at the scanner and we have to step aside after three times and a CM with pad has to come and check it's really her.

Wow your mom is a rock star! I have only been one 21 years but using hand sanitizer 100’s of times a day both going in and out of rooms really is rough on the hands. (And I don’t want to think about it getting absorbed into my body). I hope to make it 31 - 32 years at most. Have had two back surgeries so far so the body is weak but the mind is strong lol

The fingerprint scan has been going on for ages, the only recent change is they now scan for adults and children.

To those that have issues with it, especially children (and often adults with small hands), here's a tip. The frequent issue with children (and adults with small hands) is their fingers are too small and they don't fully fill the scanner area so each time they place it on the scanner it is just different enough it causes the scan to be just different enough to return an error. Adults and people with larger hands normally fill the scanner area so it is the same each time and this isn't an issue as often. Have your children, or anyone with smaller fingers, put the finger on the scanner so the tip is touching the top each time. This should help the scan be the same, or close enough to the same, to reduce the number of errors. I've been using this technique with DGD and she never has errors when we go in the parks.

It's not a fix 100% of the time but it does help a lot.

Thank you for this tip. I have very small hands (ring size 4.5), and am hit and miss with the scanners. I never thought of this issue, I’ll try your truck next time!

I always use the finger I log into my phone with, makes it easier. Never had any problems myself, but my 7 year olds never works for some reason, they always have to check her picture.
