Magicband upgrade question

I am thinking about upgrading my kids bands, i see that the avabile designs change but how often? I found one that my younger son will like but not one for my older son can i upgrade one now then edit the order later?

We have had no luck doing that. It seems to be all or nothing.

May 2020 will be our first staying on property.
The MagicBand is included in the staying right? Can I choose/customize it, or they will have us a regular MagicBand in th check in?
(We are from Brazil, so we can’t order beforehand and have it delivery here)

The plain colors (red, blue, yellow, green, purple, pink and grey) are the ones included. You should be able to choose and customize (color and personalization) from Disney's website if you don't have the MDE app, to have them delivered to your resort.

Only the solid colored ones @tnolan described are free and included. Any others you want you have to buy and pay for

Unfortunately, you cannot customize the bands one at a time. Once you customize one and check-out, the entire order is finalized and sent to you. It has been very difficult for most people to get all of the custom bands they want at one time. Inventory seems to shift constantly. On our trip in July, I gave up and customized three bands while I was stuck with a solid. I didn't want to miss out on the three bands that happened to be available so I took one for the team!

It's all or nothing. But keep at it. I didn't get the one I really wanted for our upcoming trip but did get something I'm good with and got the one DH wanted. On the weekend, I managed to get both of us ones that we really wanted for our trip in Feb. It's really way too early for that one (we have to have them shipped to the resort) but they had both of them at the same time so I figured grab it now. You just have to be persistent and maybe a bit flexible. I was even able to get DH the limited edition Mickey Halloween one for our early September trip. I had to be flexible and get the villains one which I hadn't really wanted but in the end I really liked it - looks better in person than it did on the site. I'll probably take that one with me on our next trip too.
