Magicband+ questions

Hi all, I have a couple of questions about Magicband + and My Disney Experience App, hope you guys can help.
1. Does the my Disney Experience App need to be running in the background all the time that I’m in the parks? If not will I get notified when my next genie+ can be selected?

2. With the Magicband+ and the Play Disney app, if we are going up to the statues in the park, does the app need to be open and running in the background to interact with the statues?

3. I saw in the app there are pictures that represent each statue, does the fab 50 quest in the app need to be started and do I need to select the icon when I get to the statue, or will it automatically be selected when I wave at the statue?

My MDE app was not open when my Magic Band reacted to the statues. I would feel it buzz as I approached the statue. Some of the statue‘s audio was so low I could barely hear it. Apparently IT isn’t concerned as they will be removed after the 50th? my band would go crazy changing colors during all the nighttime shows though. I got no notification when it was time to make my next LL. Perhaps that is why. Each time I opened MDE to my day it would tell me when I could make my next selection.

We have our bands in one MDE account. Our bands reacted to the statues, but only the lead person's band 'collected' them. I have no idea if this is true for everyone, or just something quirky that happened to us. It was confusing.

Early on we also had a problem of statues disappearing after we'd collected them. I don't know if that has been fixed.

Also, when we only had 1 more statue to collect, we also realized it was in the Hub. Unfortunately, that was also just a little while before the fireworks, so it was hard to get to it. The Hub wasn't packed, but people were starting to gather along the fence in front of the statues. They didn't understand why we were there. I'm sure some folks thought we were trying to find a fireworks spot.

I advise collecting all the Hub statues before 7:30pm.

I did have the play Disney app installed. I was the only one in my party of 6 with The Magicband+.
