Magicband + on DCL

It's super convienient and if i can use it multiple times for all of my trips, it's not that much money. If you get one with a design it's like an accessory. Why do people spend money on mouse ears? I have rarely seen people wearing their ears when it's not Disney related but they are willing to shell out the same amount of money for one, or in some cases, many. Also, I'd rather not wear the lanyard or find a place for my card that's safe. I don't always have pockets.

Yes, to that note, anything that some people decide is worth spending money on, some other people won’t understand. Mouse ears, fish extenders, hiding ducks, door decorations. At least the bands have a practical use!

I can't believe the number of people willing to part with 35 bucks for a Disney band+. What am I missing? Sometimes I feel like these boards have Disney moles just to generate fake excitement for more up-selling. It's the Figment popcorn buckets all over again.:confused3
I got to use them in WDW with my kids and honestly the look on their faces made it worth it. I think magic bands in general are WAY better for kids than cards. I've cruised with my kids a couple times on different cruise lines and the amount of times I lose my mind over them and their cards drives me up the wall.

But back to the magic band+ it was awesome to see my kids faces when we would be walking and out of no where their bands start vibrating and lighting up and then a statue we walked next to starts playing music. They also would light up on rides, during shows, etc. Idk just random fun things. For me the convience alone makes it worth the money as in the marks magic bands have just been so much easier for us than the room cards. The thing I really like about these versus the old magic bands is they're rechargeable. So the original magic bands once they died a lot of the features no longer would work. Basically at that point they were a door key only. These recharge, so ours from our WDW trip are going to be able to be used for the cruise.

I display ours in our home as a way to remember our trips. Idk I think the best part is they're optional.

Now the figmet buckets, those were nuts but I have a lot of friends who are avid disney popcorn bucket collectors. LOL

Whats a shame/annoy for non US residents you can pre oder Magicbands and have them at resort for pickup. But doesn't look like this is an option for DCL

Would be nice if the DCL could be sent to resorts so can use band in parks before cruise

I still don’t quite understand the appeal if (as according to reports) you have to take them off and hand them over for purchases and need a KTTW card to disembark at port… This is way behind the technology of say Medallions on Princess cruises.

I think you can leave MB+s on for purchases. I haven't used a MB+ but I have used regular MBs and those you could just 'hover' over the scan part of the pay pad and it should work.

But yes, you still need a KTTW card to disembark. Presumably because right now, the MB+ technology doesn't include a photo of you when you scan it (Princess' Medallion does). That's why you still need your KTTW card (at least for now).

The current reports are at least for the Wish is that they’re making people take them off to pay for items. Now they are completely in the test phase so it could change.

And wouldn’t the magic band plus technology need a photo of you to have charging privileges? Otherwise, how would they know if say a 19yo is buying an adult drink with my band or not?

Princesses medallion class has more than just photos built-in it has location services built-in that magic band + just doesn’t seem to support. It’s a subpar product in comparison.

That's the step I'm hoping they implement, that they match the technology that Princess has in their medallions, by the time the Treasure sails.

I wasn't aware of those reports from the Wish, so thanks for sharing. I was thinking more of using MBs in the parks, but it seems, at least in the test phase, they don't work quite the same as they do on land. Hopefully they can change that.

I don't know the answer to your question about having a photo pop up for charging privileges. You make an excellent point, though if they do have the photo tied to the MB+ I'm not sure why you would need a KTTW card to get on/off the ship.

And yes, I loved the location services on Medallion, especially being able to order food from pretty much anywhere on the ship and having it delivered. :)

I am guessing the technology is different with MB vs. MB+. For the price DCL is charging, MB+ should be included when it's officially rolled out.

I agree. People often complain about the nickel and diming on other cruise lines. I feel that this is what DCL is doing here. And it’s very off putting.

I actually like the idea of the band, I always thought it would be perfect for the cruise as it’s so easy to wear to water activities etc.

More money for the Rat.

Not hearing much. I am wondering how wise it was to have magic band plus that needs to be charged when there are already so few charging ports and outlets in the staterooms as is…

Wait. The MB to be used onboard needs to be charged? Would that be plugged in or wireless?

Magicband + comes with chargers. They need to be charged. They plug into usb ports.

I picked one up while at Disney World and it’s been a disappointment. Original magic bands are more comfortable. It’s annoying to remember to charge the. The 50th statues are hit or miss. I’m not thrilled they went with Magicband+ only on DCL.

A DisneyBand+/MagicBand+ will continue to work on-board the ship even if the battery is fully depleted. With a dead battery, it's functionally equivalent to your KTTW card. With a dead battery, your DisneyBand+ can still open your stateroom door and charge purchases to your shipboard account. What they won't do is interact (face changes colors) during the fireworks display.

we are on the Wish next week, just got our Magic Band+ for our WDW days before cruise. They are linked to our park reservation, do we need to somehow link them to cruise?
