"Magical" to be summer-only; "Remember" returns in the fall

That is GREAT news!!! I was totally bummed when I heard they were cutting it!

I find the short run to be really interesting.

- Why go through all the work, time, and creative energy to create a new show for only 3 months?
- Why continue with the RDCT fireworks when everything else "Dreams" related ended with the end of YOAMD promotion?
- Why create a flying Dumbo only to use it for 3 months?

Just seems odd to me.

Interesting,
Dreams

1) Because the new show will be a lot cheaper and will require closing off fewer areas of the park (although the FL dark rides will still all close). That's good for the summer when the fireworks are daily and the crowds are bigger.
2) Remember has been playing since 2005. It had nothing to do with the YOAMD promotions.
3) It's not that big a cost in the grand scheme of things.

Also, who knows, maybe DL will go to seasonal changes in the Fireworks show like in Tokyo.

I'm glad that they're not finishing Remember completely - I really enjoyed them when I saw them last year. I just love the whole idea of working round the park and also the way they chose to use the Disneyland dedication speech as part of it.

So we will be there Labor Day Weekend..wonder if that is summer or not :)
Since Remember was for the 50th, if they are keeping it I hope they update the Julie Andrews track..at least by next year for the 55th!

I'm with you. That is just another reason why I love Parade of Dreams. I love to hear Walt's voice in the park over the loud speaker. I love the history of the park and it gives me goosebumps when it happens. Love the nostalgia.

Exactly why I would think Disney would keep it around longer.

Well.... it was originally for the 50th (which is long gone). Then it was brought back for the 1st YOAMD, which lasted much longer than a year. :goodvibes

3) It's not that big a cost in the grand scheme of things.
Agreed. I was not talking about cost.

I am just surprised, that's all.

I'm kinda with Dreams on this one...why go through all this trouble for 3 months? I understand that it'll cause less of a headache during peak season crowds, but why not keep it around for a while? Weird.

Wait which sections are going to stay open then? If I'm correct, the areas that currently close temporarily during fireworks are:
-FL dark rides/right inside the castle
-Toontown
-Monorail/Railroad

So what's going to be different? :confused3

Because it's not that much trouble.

People are overestimating the expense of a temporary fireworks show. It's all marketing, and if it gets people into the park during the summer, it works.

I guess it's working. I just informed the DH that since the reunion isn't till October, we will have to go during the summer so we can see it and his response was "Guess so. Darn!" We're total suckers for new stuff at Disneyland.

So Disneyland summer season ends August 23.
What about August 24 through Labor Day Weekend - Monday, Sept. 7?
No fireworks, parades? Electrical parade? Fantasmic?

The unofficial end of summer is Labor Day.

Electrical Parade & Fantasmic
It's hard to say for sure, but based on last year it's likely that the Electrical Parade and Fantasmic will still be shown on the weekends in the last week of August and Labor Day weekend.

Celebrate (CASP) & Pixar Play Parade
It's hard to predict the future of Celebrate (CASP), but based on last year I would guess that CASP and the Pixar Play Parade would still show every day in the last week of August and every day in September.

Fireworks
Labor Day is Sept. 7. Based on last year, it's likely that there will be fireworks every night during the last week of August. With Labor Day being so late, I'm not sure about the first week of September.

Here's a link to the calendar for Aug. '08:

I can't wait for Magical either. I do think it's interesting that they're only keeping it for 3 months. I thought this was going to be the permanent show for awhile.

How is the new show cheaper? The video of the presentation sounds like they are actually adding new effects like the search lights and Dumbo. ALso, "one of the biggest finales in Disneyland history". It sounds really neat to me!!!

What the haystacks?

Oh well, hopefully the new show is good, but not so good that we'll be dreading RDCT's return.

Well, they can say anything they want on paper, but RDCT is really expensive, some 30K per show.

.

While this used to be generally true, many schools start now before Labor Day. Many schools are year-around. Labor Day is a week later this year because the 1st lands on a Tuesday.

All of that added up together (to me) says that Labor Day does not necessarily set the mark for when summer ends anymore.
