Magical Miles to the Marathon! Comments welcomed

Thank goodness for SW allowing you to change both the departure and return flights when they make a change. I got the email and it was like we had to change your departure date on 1/2. I had booked the wrong week! So I was able to get the right week, and then had to double check my resort reservation, but apparently it was just the flights.

Training has not been great, hopefully now that it is starting be cool again in the mornings it will only go up. I really want to eat at Carthay Circle but forgot to check when they released reservations so now am stalking that page. I did get a world of color dessert party for half celebration which is fun but not as good a deal as the Magic Kingdom fireworks package. You get served a tray with food instead all you can eat.

Well July ended up being my lowest mileage in years. Only 30, usually summer is at least around 80. August will be better. It must be as I have the Halloween half, in sept. June was an ok month. Hopefully I have enough past miles in me to make it not terrible.

I love Hercules so much (I’m doing Megara for marathon weekend) but I don’t know If I will be able to do Springtime, and the rest of the themes are just fine to me.

I finally got in a bit of a grove with running this last week. All easy but I was consistent which had been lacking so much in July!!! I am getting excited for the Halloween half weekend. Though I don’t arrive until Friday morning and am staying until Wednesday afternoon following. But I checked the entertainment schedule and saw that Fantasmic, the Halloween screams with fireworks, and world of color don’t run on the Monday and Tuesday. I have a world of color desert party booked for Sunday night. I am thinking of taking naps during day and just staying up late. I hardly sleep anyway before races, and these I am planning on taking pretty easy. It has been a long time since I saw Fantasmic at Disneyland, since the last time I went it was still down due to the fire. SO I booked a Rancho dining meal for the 1st show on Sat. Friday wasn’t available, which would be my preferred day I think. I will keep checking. I have seen Halloween screams recently and it is still pretty good even without fireworks, so if I have to miss one that will be the one to miss for me. Decisions decisions.

Well it has been awhile since I updated this.

Training has not been going great. I have been sick so much this fall. Nothing too serious, just colds and the like, but enough where it has interrupted my training. In addition to Disneyland Halloween half, I did a half in October that went ok, was able to get under 2:30 without an “A” effort. But every time I felt good about training and increasing my milage I got sick. I have been sick this past week and half and am finally feeling a bit better. I am really hoping that this means I will not be sick at Marathon weekend. I am not going to be as trained as I would like to be though. I was supposed to run a Half marathon Saturday, but I decided to drop down to the Quarter Marathon option. (Which means I will run a PR though! never ran that distance), and then cut my long run on Sunday down to 14. That will have to do for my simulation this time around.

I am getting excited for the weekend! I don’t have any restaurants booked yet, I just want to see how I feel and mostly do quick service. I will be at POP for the first part of my trip and moving to Old Key west on Monday. I realized the past couple of trips I just can’t handle roller coasters like I used to. I’m glad I rode Everest last year during the marathon, but I don’t I will do it this year. I’m not even sure if I will ride it on a regular park day. I am excited about the Mini golf, as I have never done that before, and the Festival of Arts as that will also be new to me. I am trying to look forward to the trip even with less than stellar training and not be too nervous. I know I can do a half. I should be able to complete the marathon, even if it comes down to walking.

I thought the 10k went well, but I once again the never-ending cold resurfaced. Thank goodness at least for now It seems to be gone. I am both terrified and excited for Goofy, I feel so unprepared. At least the weather has been predicted to get to 45-60. Most of my runs have been when its 40-50, and I usually were shorts and light long sleeve. The first mile or so is uncomfortable but afterthat I'm good. So now mostly I am worried about the corral wait. Though I think I am switching my costumes, jack for half and the red queen for the full. The jack dress I am wearing has weird cutouts on the back, and would be hard to re-apply sunscreen, so if I run in it for the half I think I could get away with not having to apply it mid race. On one of the numerous running podcasts I listen to, (can't remember which one) it gave the tip that if you are undertrained the best thing you could do is make sure you are on top of your fueling. I am making sure to bring plenty of fuel, especially as I might be out there longer than normal.

Trying my best to be positive, I had a POT so hopefully I should be starting in C, and I should have a pretty good buffer on the balloon ladies and should still be able to stop for pictures.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meetups!

So how did race weekend turnout for you? Hope it went well and we look forward to hearing about it when you have time.

Im in for Goofy again! I really was going to do the marathon as a standalone, but being a librarian the themes really drew in. I had already made a DVC rental before the themes were released and am staying at animal kingdom for the 1st time. Though I am going to be a little sad not to be at pop, there are so many runners there.

Looking forward to meeting up with everyone! I hope you all got in as well.

I plan to stay at Pop since its going to be a solo / budget friendly trip. I think Pop is going to be undergoing room renovations during marathon weekend. Hope that does not cause too much of a issue. AoA as a second option maybe or Coronado maybe... So, is Pop going to be crazy or just busy?
AKL is a beautiful resort! Visited it a few times but have never stayed there yet. It's on my to do list!

Pop is wonderful for race weekends! I think last year they may have started on reno's as I remember some people here got upgraded to Port orleans. It will be busy but there are so many runners it has a festive feel and the Bus Lady is wonderful there too.

It’s been a while since I updated this. After the wonderful marathon weekend and visit, Its it has been quite a trying year. I came home to a water line break. Then a few weeks later my fridge broke, and then a few weeks after that my washing machine. And I am a librarian and am worried about our budget/operation next year due to all the cuts and everything is in the air so that is hard to plan, what programming can we afford? New books?

I haven’t raced since the marathon, but I think I will be doing a half in July in Utah, then I’m in for the Halloween half challenge. I can’t believe that they already cancelling the Disneyland races! For a brief moment I was tempted to try and register for the half in January at Disneyland so I could get a coast to coast medal. But I am saving all my vacation days after Marathon weekend to run the Athens Greece marathon in Nov 2026. Its been a long dream of mine and I have never been to Greece. Anyone want to join? I plan using a travel agent to take care of the marathon part and then travel a bit.

Running has been fine, just maintaining really. I got the new Saucony endorphin trainer and I love them! Saucony has always felt awesome to my feet and these shoes are supposed to last for training for a marathon, instead of the limited miles from some of the super shoes.

I plan on starting a 10 week half training for the July 12th race in about a week and a half.

Wow, what a welcome home you had! I hope things calm down soon and nothing else breaks.

What race are you doing in Utah in July? I did Deseret a couple of times when I lived there, and some of the Park City trail races.

Greece?? WOW! That sounds amazing. Honestly didn't know until right now they even had a marathon. I'd love to hear about your experience using a travel agent for a race like that. Sadly, I can not do November, but I will follow along for sure.

OOF! It always stinks when everything just keeps breaking like a domino chain!

You WILL be eligible for the C2C this year because it's based on calendar year. Since you ran in Jan and will run in Sept at DL you will be able to get your C2C medal at DL.

And yay for new shoes! That's always a tricky puzzle to solve.
