We just got back from ten days at WDW and we took the magical express and loved every minute of it..It was so relaxing and not having to check in at the airport was great...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANY ONE>> :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I also took ME for the first on Sept 9th ...Highly recommend...very quick and easy..

so happy to hear that the kinks seem to be worked out. When I first started reading about this in May or June, I was afraid to trust it. But now I'm looking forward to the disney magic starting as soon as I hit the airport in Orlando :cool1:

Just came home yesterday and it was great service do not listen to what any one else says about it it is wonderful...

I am glad to hear the good reports. I will be traveling with my 3 DGC. The easier the better!

Can you tell me how it works? We were going to take a towncar after reading the earlier reviews, but maybe I can save the $100+ for the drive. What airline participate? We made ressies through the BRP and didn't click on ME. Do you think if I call they would add it to our ressies? Any details on this service would be appreciated, or if there is an informational thread I could check out that would be great, too. Thanks for any help out there.

EVERYONE who flies into MCO and is staying at a WDW resort can use DME. EVERYONE. Just call and make your DME reservation (you'll need your flight info).

Three weeks or less before your trip, you'll receive a DME packet in the mail. Included in the packet will be 2 DME luggage tags per person. These tags are actually sticky paper, the same type of paper they use at the airports to tag your luggage with the 3-letter airport code, etc., except that the DME tags are bright yellow and skinnier. Put a DME tag on each piece of checked luggage before you leave home.

OK. Now it's time to fly to MCO. Do everything at your home airport as you would any other time. They don't know anything about DME and they don't have to. All the DME stuff is done at MCO and NEVER before that.

Fly into MCO. When you get off the plane, go directly to the DME Welcome Center. Don't go to Baggage Claim because your bags won't be there. Behind the scenes, all of the DME-tagged bags are pulled from the stream of luggage, and are transported via truck to the guests' resorts. At the DME desk, they'll inform you which bus queue to get in. You'll then board your bus. There may be guests from up to 3 other resorts on the same bus. There's no pre-set grouping of resorts, so you have no way of knowing in advance if your resort will be your bus's first stop, second stop, etc. You'll have the option of storing your carry-ons under the bus or taking them onto the bus with you. If you have the driver store them, a tip would be appropriate when he/she unloads your carry-ons.

You'll be dropped off at your resort, and you can go check in. Your luggage will arrive after you, maybe an hour, maybe 3, who knows! You don't need to be in your room to wait for your luggage delivery, Bell Services will put your luggage directly into your room whether you're in there or not (the luggage will "magically appear"). The Bell Services CMs are pre-tipped by Disney, to account for the fact that there's often not going to be anyone "home" to tip them. When my luggage arrived, I was at the pool with my kids enjoying the start of our vacation. Anytime you travel, it's a good idea to pack your carry-on with items you'll need for the first day or so just in case the airline delays your luggage. Pack what you'll need for your first day in your carry-on, and you'll have a stress-free first day!

The day before you check out, you'll get DME paperwork at your room, telling you your DME bus pick-up time. If you are flying a "participating airline" (American, Delta/Song, Continental, and United/Ted), you can check your luggage at the Resort Airline Check-In desk in your resort's lobby; you won't see your luggage again until it's on the baggage claim carousel at your home airport. At that same time, you can also actually check in for your flight and receive your boarding passes. You can do whatever you want that day until it's time for your ride. Make sure you're at your resort about 15 minutes before your scheduled bus time.

If you're not flying on a "participating airline," you still get the free bus ride back to the airport, but you won't have the perk of the luggage handling or the checking in at your resort. You have to get your own luggage to the DME bus (if you check out before your bus pick-up, have Bell Services store your luggage, but realize they may be VERY busy and backed up, so call way ahead of time and ask what sort of time frame you'll need). Before the bus leaves, the driver will load your luggage into the cargo hold of the bus. On this leg of DME, the Bell Services CMs are tipped by you, not by Disney. And of course, if your DME driver handles your luggage or carry-ons please tip as you deem appropriate. When you are dropped off at MCO, the driver will unload your luggage for you. After that, go find your airline's ticket counter (or find a skycap) and check in as you would for any other flight.

I know this seems like a lot, but it's actually a pretty simple system. I loved using it, and I hope you do, too!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I feel much more comfortable with ME now.

Can anyone just clarify for me (sorry if this is already been asked) - if you are not flying on one of the participating airlines, do you pick up your own luggage when you arrive at MCO and bring it to the bus? I thought that's what you had to do, but am not sure now after reading CleveRocks post. It would be great if we did not have to! :sunny:

No - every airline is "participating" on arrival in Orlando.
On your trip home, only certain airlines allow you to check your luggage through from your resort all the way to your destination airport. Passengers on these airlines can also check in for their flights from their Disney resorts - see the checkin counter for hours and restrictions.
Passengers on NON-participating flights going home can still use DME but have to bring their luggage to the bus, check IT in at the airport then check themselves in at the airport.

In addition to the participating airlines listed by CleveRocks (see above), JetBlue has been added to the list.

All airlines are participate in the program when you are coming into MCO. The whole 'participating airline' issue only applies to those airlines that will allow you to check your luggage with the airline at your resort. Otherwise, you just follow the same proceedures you would if you were taking a Mears shuttle bus or a towncar service back to MCO. Except it's a nice new bus (usually) and it's free (at least until the end of Oct '06). Man, I wish Disney would make this more clear.
As CleveRocks (Eric) said...if you have those yellow luggage tags, provided by DME, on your luggage you don't go and retrieve them. You can't!! They won't even make it out to the luggage carousel....they will be picked right away, behind the scenes so to speak.
Of course if you feel better about grabbing your own bags, just don't put the yellow tags on them. They will go to the carousel area, where you can grab them and take them to DME check-in desk.

Is it true you leave to return to the airport 3 hrs before your flight?

Yes, it is. But the towncars will pick you up around 2 1/2 hrs before your flight, so not a huge difference. Once my departure day comes, I'm usually ready to get going, especially if I have a flight before 3. By the time I have a big breakfast and get my bags to where they need to be, I don't have enough time to go to a park and enjoy myself, so the 3 hrs. before my flight is fine with me. and it gives me time to relax at the airport and grab a bite to eat.

Sometimes the security check lines at Orlando airport are so long that 3 hours prior to your flight almost doesn't seem like enough time!!!

It is true but the day we left they told it was slow and we could leave a half hour later..but it was nice not to have to rush through secruity,etc...it was a relaxing ending to our trip..

Completely Agree!!

I too thought 3 hours was a little much, because we always rent a car. We are also always rushing to return the car and make our flight. (Arguing and fussing the whole way! LOL!)

We took ME 1 way for our trip home last Sunday (Sept 11) and if we hadnt left 3 hours prior, we would not have made our flight.

One, after we checked in, we went to the wrong Gate. 2, after being directed to the right gate, I got the FULL security treatment, as well as my carryons. 3, The flight started boarding 1 hour before departure and was ready to go 15-20 minutes before schedule. At 2 pm exactly, we were pulling away from the terminal.

We were so much more relaxed and really did not want to miss our flight, because it was the only nonstop scheduled that day. Missing it, would mean a guaranteed connection in Atlanta which is never good.

It was only 1/2 hour more than if we drove ourselves.

I too would recommend ME and using it, saved us $100 over the cost of rental car and gas.

I totally agree it is sooo much more relaxed..If dinsey offered this service and charged for it it would be soo worth it..

I'm set to travel to WDW on the 26th of Sept. I've called them 2X (on 8/11 and 9/10) to give my flight info for the magical express. So far, I haven't received my express luggage tags. On this coming Monday, it will be a week till I leave. I will give them another call if I haven't received the tags by then. Has this happened to anyone else. What happens if I never receive them. I was really hoping not to have to LUG our luggage. DH and I are not as young as we used to be!! We will be celebrating our 52nd anniversary at the parks. Other than this problem, I can't wait. I love WDW. It truly is a magical place for all ages. Any info will be greatly appreciated. :flower:

Is Delta connection (Chataqua) part of the airlines that participate on the retunrn?
