We haven't used it before so I have a few questions...

Coming from the UK, do we get our 'yellow' luggage tags sent out to us? How does it work with customs?

Can some of our luggage be collected by DME and brought to our room while other bits we collect and transport ourselves? Is it as simple as leaving off the yellow tags what we want to collect ourselves?

No you don't get yellow tags. If I was you I'd take it with you. UK flights tend to get in mid to late afternoon so you are likely to want your stuff well before Disney finds you and returns it. Not sure how you identify your luggage is for DME sorry as I'd never leave my luggage at the airport!!

Disney doesn't send the ME luggage tags to the UK.

If you are arriving off a direct flight from the UK then you collect your luggage after immigration and clear customs. You then have 3 choices:
  1. Take you luggage with you on the transit to the main terminal (you need to be able to carry it all up an escalator and there are no trolleys allowed if you do this) and proceed to level 1 on the B side to catch DME and take your bags with your on the coach.
  2. After customs you can put your bags on the next luggage belt and they will transfer them to the main terminal for you. You can then collect your bags from the baggage reclaim (there are trolleys here) and take them to DME check in and take them on the coach.
  3. Lastly, again after customs you drop off your bag and then proceed straight to DME. When you check in you describe your bags and hand over your baggage receipts given to you by the airline. DME collect your luggage from the reclaim belt and deliver to your resort. I dislike this option as there is nothing to say how quickly they will go and collect your bags and they are going round in an open access part of the airport. It can also take up to 4 hours from check in at your resort for your bags to be delivered.
Personally, if you can can I would use option 1 otherwise it would be option 2 for us. You can use skycaps or trolleys at the airport to help you if you have a lot of cases and there are bell services at the other end and will be there when DME arrives.

I agree with Elise. When we use Magical Express we always opt for Option 1 ( we actually opt for this no matter which transportation option we use) We have used option 2 and were waiting for our luggage for over 60 minutes and had a town car waiting for us. I'd never go with option 3 as I want my luggage with me when I arrive at resort as it's a quick change for us and out to a park asap!
