We rented DVC Points for our upcoming trip. I gave our flight info to the guy we rented from for ME. After that - I changed our flights to a direct flight and we get in 45 minutes earlier. Is it important that I have him change this information with Disney or will it not be a big deal since we are arriving almost at the same time anyway?

When you check in at the DME Welcome Center, you'll be asked how many bags you checked. Your DME bag routing tags will be scanned when DME receives your bags from your airline. Normally, the quantity will match.

But if DME receives fewer bags, DME will check with your airline, using your flight information. For this reason, DME really should have the correct flight information.

In other words, it really doesn't matter for transportation, but it matters if there's an issue with your bags.

Ok - thanks. That makes sense. I will get him the updated flights.

I don't follow. If this was the case, anyone missing a connecting flight would be in jeopardy of having DME miss luggage.

So let's see... traveler "Joe Smith" tells DME he checked 2 bags. DME only accounts for one. DME contacts the airline and says there's a missing bag and it was supposed to be on flight '123'? Or do they say there's a missing bag for 'Joe Smith'? Wouldn't the airline need the name to lookup where the bag is?

OP, I wouldn't worry about it.

I never let DME know if there is a change to my arrival flight. My times have changed many times...it's never been an issue.

Yes, DME would need the name and the flight number that the passenger was supposed to be on. The airline can see if the passenger was actually accommodated on a different flight due to a missed connection.

The airline may have a many passengers named Joe Smith in its computer -- but probably only one Joe Smith who was supposed to be on flight 123 today. And if Joe Smith decided to cancel his refundable ticket and fly on a different airline, it would be even more important.

As I wrote before, it really doesn't matter for transportation.

But if DME needs to track your bags, it would be useful for DME to know your itinerary was for United flight 123, not Southwest flight 456.

I was just curious; we use Disney's Magical Express every year and we never check in at the Welcome Center. When we arrive at Orlando, we simple walk straight to the bus lines where a representative is waiting to direct us, checks our booklet for our reservation and off we go. :confused3

I assumed we were talking about the same airline, but a different flight #... like what would happen if a connection is missed.

Now that's an interesting point.

I haven't used Magical Express lately. Whenever I used it, I would go to the DME counter first. The CM would look me up in the computer and ask how many bags I checked.

One time I had no checked bags, and told them so. A couple of hours later, I received a concerned phone call from DME because they had no bags for me. I assured them this was okay.

I still think it's better for DME to have accurate flight information, but I agree that in most cases it would make no real difference.

I agree, at least for my family, if we change any info concerning our flight, I contact them. I do think was great how they followed up with you when they discovered they had no luggage for you! Knock wood...we have been lucky!

This preliminary check in by a roving DME Welcoming Area CM has been going on for awhile. It appears that the labor savings of having fewer CMs behind the counter outweighs the extra costs of handling baggage claims in the few cases where it made any difference when tracking a missing bag did not commence until the guest got back to his room after park closing and only then discovered that the bag was missing.
