Wasn't sure where this should go, so I apologize if it's in the wrong spot. We were planning on driving from TX to WDW. But now we are thinking of just flying. Can I call Disney and add Magical Express now? Or will it complicate things? I didn't add insurance to our package, so I'm not sure if that makes a differnce in being able to make changes?

As long as you are booked in a Disney resort, you can book the ME transportation. The sooner you do it the better so that you receive your booklet with your baggage tags - since the greatest perk is having them retrieve your bags and deliver them to your room.

Good luck!

Okay thanks. We used it on our last trip and LOVED the convience of it. But I booked the flight/hotel/tickets/ME all at the same time that trip.

super easy to add. we often add our flights after booking our package. Have a great time!

We always have or vacation booked then add our flights several months later with no problems. We have next years trip booked but don't plan to book a flight until next spring.

My wife booked a trip 10 days out and still got her tags for Magical Express. FedEx brought her Disney pack ... I think ... or it was UPS, not sure.

Our trip in June, I realized, about five days out, that we hadn't gotten our ME tags yet. I called and they overnighted them to me. Apparently it wasn't on our reservation (although it was on the rest of the group's). But, whatever, we got them in no time.

You don't need insurance to book DME. Just phone WDW reservations and ask to have DME added on. You can do it after you book your flights so you can give them your flight info.

Is the Magical Express feature as awesome as most people say it is?

If you do not want to rent a car or pay for a taxi.. then YES it is as great as people say. It is a free ride to and from the airport. If you have checked bags from the airport they are brought directly to your room- takes a while - but again you did not have to go to baggage claim and get them.

Depends on what you think is awesome. Things to like are:
1. It's included/free/no cost
2. You can check your bags at your home airport and not have to deal with picking them up at MCO.
3. Did I mention it's free?

Things to consider are:
1. Lines for the DME buses at MCO may or may not be long, depending on when you go etc. etc.
2. Despite the word "express" you may make a few stops at other hotels before you're dropped off.
3. You really need to bring a carry on of essentials -- swimsuits, sunscreen, medicine, etc. -- because your luggage won't arrive at the same time you do.

I like DME and I'll always use it when I can. But another way to look at the service is that it's Disney's way of keeping you -- and your money -- on property. If you're not planning to do anything except Disney World, DME can work out well for you.

And are things just as "slick" when you leave to go home?

Yes -- at your resort you check in with your airline and check your bags in the morning of your departure. At MCO you can go directly to the gate with your boarding passes and pick up your luggage at home. Skipping the airline check-in counter is very nice.

Our flight is scheduled to be leaving at about 6:10 AM. That early in the morning is it going to be difficult to get to the airport (MCO) from AKV. How long before flight time should we be leaving AKV?
