Magical Express to end in 2022

I understand that, that's why I said for those who Uber would be an option.

I’m just making it clear that while car seat request is an option, it is rarely actually available. It is not something people should count on.

I didn’t quote it but I was also kind of answering your other question about some would rent a car over ride share.

I feel like if they do this train situation that there would be luggage transfer from MCO to WDW. I can't see people dragging luggage all over Orlando. Who knows, though.

If they provide the luggage transfer and just have the people take the train and then bus to their resort that wouldn't be *too* bad for us (and is suspect many families) - heck, my son would love getting to take a train as part of the travel

The luggage element would be a big annoyance if having to get it, get it to the train, pick it up off the train, bring it over to a bus, etc

Much like your son, I too would be excited to take the train! :D So I hope they have a luggage service when/if this ever happens.

Local here... I know that there has been talk of the Brightline connecting Orlando International to Disney, with some type of station located around Disney Springs...from what I remember, Disney and Brightline were in talks, I thought that nothing came of it... not enough interest or people wanting to pony up cash for it... I haven't seen anything on the news... that might be because I stopped watching the news... months ago... DH reads the Orlando Business Journal faithfully which seem to have a honest and true articles on what is happening and possibly happening around here... he would mention if something had come up like this, for sure... I know that they are trying to get the Brightline from Tampa to OIA.. and again I think its just talks...

Disney and Brightline made a joint announcement in November.

This explains what’s going on at the Crossroads area. It’s the FDOT that’s doing the work for the new cloverleaf. Disney didn’t own that land previously, they probably just realized they can get the rent money by offering those tenants spots in Flamingo.

As for by the terminals, I know Disney is going to start using a second cruise terminal at the port, so maybe they’re going to be adding a new exit from the road to the terminals? But not a dedicated road from WDW to the port.

I copied and pasted this from the article above... so I was right in a way... I was pretty sure that they owned it at one time... now I am curious who actually owns it now?

Disney once owned the land under Crossroads, but later sold to a developer. You have to think that Disney and other stores at Disney Springs will be happy to see the competition to their locations go. Since this project has been on the books since 2016, it might have even been a selling point to open shop at Disney Springs.

For people wondering about the train service, I recommend reading the main Coronavirus thread on this board for the latest post from @Mr. Drauer. Very succinctly sums up the logistical challenges ahead for that service.

Yup. "give us more money to make it easier for you to us more money, you gotta buy your magic bands that make it easier for you to buy things from us."

They aren't much, but another $60 for a family of 4. they keep adding these "little things" on, and the little things keep adding up to ungodly amounts.

Just think about this for a minute.... Disney is charging you for a room key. Does anyone know what they would do if you refuse to buy the Magic Band? Will they give you a KTTW card again?

Local here...

So my question is the road that Disney is building from the Airport, to WDW, and To the Cruise port... If you don't have Magical Express what is that road going to be for? Plus the fact that all those restaurants, Across the street at the light at the end of hotel blvd, are going to closing, and given the chance to relocate at Flamingo Bay.

So just talking out loud... It seem to me that they may start offering some type of different transportation, using the minnie Vans with more people not wanting to be on a bus together... or maybe smaller buses like you get at the airport, more of a shuttle, not a tour bus... I would think that they are not building that road for the heck of it... ?

We headed over to the Cape to go out on the Gambling cruise, and the progress that they have made on that road is astounding... you can really follow it along the highway.
We like to go out on the day cruises. This time you could see several of ships anchored off shore... and We saw 2 of the Disney Ships, we even asked the cocktail server if those were Disney Ship, she said yes...As well the host came by and was pointing them out to everyone... It was nice seeing them, yet sad know they were just sitting there... waiting for us all to return...
Is there any information about what they're building? I hadn't heard about this before and I'm curious.

Do you REALLY believe this is solely about Covid? They've been cutting perks for years - before Covid. They are still coming ahead, despite Covid. And they're not cutting the service until next year, when the travel industry will be rebounding. If it was really about Covid, they would have cut it beginning Jan 1/21.
I don't think the travel industry is just going to instantly rebound. It'll be a slow uphill climb. There are a lot of economic issues for people to deal with and the pandemic has made some people question crowding in to planes, airports and cruise ships. I think this recovery will take at least as long as the one after 9/11 and probably longer.

I posted about it a bit further up in the thread. It’s a new cloverleaf for the exit off of I4. They need to add a new retention pond and expand the exit ramps. So the Crossroads has to go.

MDE Buses departed several times per hour, how often will this train thingy run? Once a day? A couple of times per day? Hourly? Several times per hour? How late/early will it run? Weekends? Holidays? I need answers...

I agree... it's going to take time... So I think we all just have to dig deep and find some more patience - unfortunately I think that the cruise industries will be the hardest to get back to normal... We love to Cruise... yet I know for us, we aren't going to even look at cruising until you don't have to wear a mask...as well as all the other things like shows, and deck dancing, and themed parties... are back in full swing...

We have flown, with Delta, and the middle seats are vacant which for us, and masking up for a few hours was okay... We felt that they did a great job, protecting us, and the crew... We are just in a wait and see kinda pattern... for our next trip what is going on will determine where we go, whether we fly or do something within reasonable driving distance.

I definitely agree there won't be a full rebound all at once ... but I do hope by early 2022 things are looking more positive and on the way back up - so the timing of this seems "odd" to me if this is trully 100% due to Covid related money issues. And if things are trending int he right direction (even if full recovery is still 1-3 years away, maybe more) wouldn't you want those peole that are spending vacation $ to have every reason to book with you vs other options?

so to me that means:
- Disney was thinking of eliminating this anyway (perhaps the current economic situation just confirmed things for them)
- they have something else coming that they more fully control
- they will provide more customized solutions (via the Genie app?) - at varying cost points

I just feel like there has to be more to the story thank simply a short term expense savings when eliminating something that was a true differentiator

Okay... so I'm not sure now, I knew that there was talk about the Brightline going from the airport to Disney...and the Crossing area was going to be like the hub for it, or something like that... I thought that was squashed, not enough interest or anyone wanting to pony up for the cost of it.. and I was under the impression that the Crossing area actual belongs to Disney's, that's why they offered all the restaurants there a place at Flamingo Bay?

So now I wonder what in the heck they are doing or what they are building down the side of the 528, everyone calls it the Disney Road... ? It looks like a road, from the 528, not a train track, and the equipment out there is for road building, as well there was a trailer out there with the Mouse logo on it, there was a tarp over it, and I guess one of the storms blew it off and you could see it plain as day... it was in one of the staging areas with equipment, and machinery, and the sections, and rebar... they use to lay down for roads... ... and if you follow it it goes from the the last bridge leaving the cruise port to, down the 528 - right to the airport and picks up on the other side heading towards Disney... you do lose sight of it, yet in some other places around Orlando you can see construction happening... Not on I-4 - that work has been going on for 10+ years with no end in sight... LOL... so now I'm just confused...

On a side note about 1-4 We move to Georgia for almost 5 1/2 years, and and moved back almost almost 6 years ago... and the road is in worse shape, and still on end in sight... LOL
yes that is the corridor for the Brightline Train from Miami to the Airport. It is not a road - but they have to build the base for the tracks to be laid down in the same fashion as a road, just like all of the bridge work that that have been doing, which is what you see. The train line ends prior to the bridge over the Banana RIver, it does not extend to the cruise ports but goes south on the eastern side of I-95. There is also construction of a modified interchange at the Airport and SR 528 - it does not go down SR 528 toward DIsney. There is no affiliation with Disney other than a proposed future station if the line is extended to go from the airport to Tampa.

The Crossroads at Hotel Plaza is not owned by DIsney - it is a separate property owner that FDOT is purchasing for the drainage ponds at the new interchange. Many of those businesses have negotiated new space a little to the north along I-4 at Daryl Carter Parkway where there is a new Target and Cheesecake Factory. There is a new interchange for I-4 going in there.

I have been saying I am done going to WDW for a while. I just can't justify the cost when I see things being stripped away. Once upon a time I could justify the higher cost of a Disney vacation because of all the extras they offered. The monorail, DME, the entertainment in the parks, the Disney level of service, etc... Those things have all disappeared or will be. Yes, the monorail still operates but it is not the same monorail it used to be. The monorail used to be cool to ride now it's either hot, stinks, or you fear it will fall apart and break down. Disney service is no long a thing either, for the most part. At least not at WDW. It is still prevelant at DL for sure. Well, who knows if it will be when it reopens, but as of my last trip it was.

I wrote a complaint email when the GF Orchestra was cut. I knew I wouldn't get anything out of it, it just felt good to write about my sadness at the direction of the company. I wasn't even expecting a response. In that email I used an example from my last trip (April 2019) to show how far things have fallen. I talked about how I spent over $400 (I have 7 kids) for cold food and rushed character interaction at Chef Mickey's for breakfast. I knew the risk of going there as the reputation is well known but the kids wanted to go so I took the chance we hit it on a good day. We didn't. The waitress was grouchy, food was awful, and the characters looked like they were running a race from table to table. Anyway, I did get a response to my surprise. The CM offered to refund 1/2 the cost if I sent her the credit card statement, which I sent her that day. No mention of the real reason I wrote, the lack of service and falling quality. This was early October. I still have not received the money. I have sent 3 follow up emails, not because I care about the money, but to point out how poor their service has become.

The funny part is, the charge right above the Chef Mickey's charge is for 1900 Park Fare. We had dinner there two nights before. That, was a great experience. So it should prove I am not just looking for money because it was equally as expensive and I didn't mention that in my email.

I know people will keep going. I personally wish people would just stop going, take it in the chin for a year or so, and drop the attendance. This will get Chapek out the door and we can hopefully replace him with someone more customer focused who will bring back Disney the way it used to be. Then I can go back too. 🤪

I'll still go to DL because the value is there for me, or at least it was pre Covid. We'll see what it looks like when this is done. But there are so many places in this country to spend my vacation dollars. I can't justify spending it on a more expensive version of Six Flags, which is what it feels like WDW has become.
